Fun cast here, the characters look good especially the armored one. Everything is put together very well here. So. Much. Style.

Thanks guys!

This big picture is turning out to be a real pain in the ass but at least I'm almost done now. Took a quick break to redo one of my old OC's I made last year to gauge how my own taste and skill has changed.

I feel like I've gotten maybe a bit edgier  :hmm:

The latter version reminds me a bit of Izaya Orihara from Durarara!! Great as always Devola!

Yeah she definitely put a few experience points in edge. But damn dude, you really leveled up yourself in that year. Great job!

Will review stories upon request. My latest arc: http://goo.gl/KYgsfF

Thats huge improvement for one year.

Any advice? Did you use any tutorials or got a better tablet or something?

@Fortis
Haha yeah, now that I look at them it's definitely the coat with the furry trim that does it, I dunno why but while I would never wear one of those despite the fact that I really like the way they look.

@Walter
Well specifically what I did during that time was a lot of experimentation. I think I had OK foundational skills a year ago, but I was playing it too safe following the typical rules for learning how to draw. I did do gesture drawings, studies of particular body parts/anatomy and stuff everyday but progress was slow and I wasn't really getting anywhere. I had to break out of my comfort zone and try things I wouldn't normally do.

The biggest changes happened when I decided to do 2 things. The first is going to sound a bit weird, but I decided on a whim I'd start drawing ecchi/hentai. It was a good way to force myself to learn how gestures work because If you're going to draw something sexy, the pose absolutely can't be "stiff". It also helped a lot with anatomy, you can't hide things underneath clothing anymore.

The second thing that helped was experimentation. I just started paying extra attention to things other artists do to make me go "hey that looks neat". For example, the dark high contrast shading you see in comic books was something I adopted. So whenever I see something that looks neat, I'll try to break it down and understand how it works and see if I can add it to my own work.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend the first strategy to everyone (especially if you aren't old enough) as I think that worked for me personally because of where I was with art at the time, but if you're in a rut and you want to see some improvement I would definitely give the second strategy a shot. Hope this helps!

Current WIP, nearly done but now I need to design a logo and stuff and it's hard, no idea where to even start:
