Paipis Reviews Whatever Albums You Suggest
« on: June 11, 2017, 04:28:01 PM »
While we listen to a lot of different stuff, Manimal and I have the distinction of being the rock'n'roll nerds of the site just because of common interest (Manimal having delved far deeper than I into the dark realm of idol pop, J- and K-, tho not jk, as well as 80s hair metal). No1sey's over there in his metalcore/alternative metal bunker (I stop at Converge with metalcore, but some alternative metal bands show promise), and Mahlua in her goth-industrial thunderland (mostly stuff that lies outside of my pre-'90 goth "expertise," if you can call it that). Lego's a pretty eclectic listener but his ship has most recently been taken by an enormous Synthwave from a sea in which I have only dipped my toe. YuumaKuuga and a couple of other members have shown a fancy for post-punk, which I share. That said, there isn't a lot of musical back-and-forth discussion going on outside of just Manimal and me, partially because we developed a relationship of sharing music with one another each introducing new stuff.

I don't want it to be just Manimal and I tho.

Because of that I'm taking any suggestions you guys have and will review, either in oral or written form. I will try to review as in depth as my sloth will allow. I haven't decided. For now, let's keep it to one suggestion a person. I'm going to cap it at 10, so if it's been a couple days since the last suggestion and it hasn't reached 10 yet, the opportunists among you can throw an extra few in there until the quota is filled.

You don't have to consider yourself a music nerd to recommend something. Just throw an album in there. I don't care really what genres it is or if you think I will like it or not. The only requirement is to not be Manimal (sorry, Manimal, that would just be redundant). If I have already listened to it and digested it fully, I may ask you to pick another. Also, I am not an angry sort of reviewer. I will not attempt to be overly provocative if I happen not to like your favorite album. But I will be honest. It might get analytical. It might get weird. But it will be my honest thoughts.

Here's an irrelevant picture that may or may not prompt you to read the above post:

Didn't really get your metal story ::). So lets leave the heavy stuff alone *for now*
The Dreadnoughts:Polka Never Dies.
I would rate the album an 7/10. Some songs really don't fit in.

Paradize 2069 by Extize. It's one of my favorite albums in existence. It's a healthy mix of EBM and trance and stuff.
I also love ...And The Moon Was Hungry... by the Romanovs, which is neoclassical.

I'd love to hear your take on these. They are wildly different from each other, and the two discs of Paradize 2069 are very different from each other (in that disc 1 is more "aggressive").

To clarify, I like plenty of heavy stuff. It's mostly here and there. Thrash, death, black, doom metal, as well as hardcore punk, 80s/90s post-hardcore. Metalcore for me is just a specific niche I haven't really enjoyed much despite giving a a few chances (Killswitch Engage and all that).  Converge, for me, is true to the genre name and actually mixes extreme metal and hardcore punk/post-hardcore in what I think is a compelling way. Jane Doe is one of my favorite albums (top 40-ish somewhere maybe), just for sheer fury, but also the songs are incredibly well written even if the distortion on analog production is an acquired taste for some. So yeah, I'm down for heavy stuff, even if I tend to be weirdly picky and pickily weird about it. But screw my tastes. Give me something you like regardless of what you think I'll think about it.

I'd like a couple more before getting started. Anybody else got anything?

I guess I'll also throw in How I Learned to Stop Giving a Sh-t and Love by Mindless Self Indulgence.

I am still exploring the metal genre's.
But I would say that shadows of the dying sun by insomnium. Get number one. I think its death metal I don't know. Could be heavy too.
If you got some recommendations for me I would gladly listen too some bands.

Let's call that a set and cap it there. I'll get started with the listening on Monday.
