Help needed with Proportions
« on: April 25, 2017, 07:34:12 AM »
Help me!!

I'm getting back into this after a rather long absence.

i feel like im ok with some of the basics (eye placement, styles etc) but the one thing i cant get my head around is hand size!!

i've tried to draw the characters right hand holding a cupcake (between thumbtips and fingertips) and just cannot get the sizing right! any and all critique is welcome as i really want to get back into this properly.

make the hand bigger, maybe shrink the head a little, shoulders are a little too wide, especially for a female character, the rest looks alright

Yeah, the hand looks too small to hold something, unless it's one of those mini-cupcakes that comes in a pack of like twelve.

Your best bet for improving proportions overall in your work is to draw people from photos first so you can understand realistic proportions, and then move onto anime/manga styling. Jumping right into the style can make things translate weird, especially since small hands is a common trope in anime/manga art. (Unless you're looking at yaoi art, then it's massive hands...)
Haha signature go brr.

You are coming back to drawing after a long break. It going to take some time to shake off the rust. Don't get frustrated and keep drawing

I tried drawing it.

lifting the shoulders a bit to balance the pose

Thank you for the guidance guys.

I've found some guides on the interwebs to help me with Hands as i know they can make or break a picture so will go to Practice, Practice, Practice!

Keanfox thank you for the hints/tips, i will rework this one in the future when i'm a bit more confident in my abilities. My friends seem to like the image so far but i can always see the ways i need to improve, just sometimes take someone else to help with the realisation of them.

Next up will be a Chibi style one!

Damn Keane that's some really helpful stuff to see in action.

And yeah Kiwi, unfortunately drawing is something that can only really progress with mileage, but don't worry, we're here to help out. Keep at it.

Don't forget to comment on other peoples' works too though!
