charater...patterns?
« on: June 18, 2009, 09:42:12 PM »
i was thinking the other day about the way i make my characters, and i noticed that i usually have more men than women, and all my female characters and tom-boys!
so i forced myself to make a "girly-girl"... and she turned evil!!  :o what is going on!!!
any way! i was wondering if anyone else has a problem like this? ;)

if you want my advice. watch lucky star! it has a wide variety of female characters of different character types so just pay attention and you should be able to pick up how different types of female characters would act.

Sometimes it's hard to imagine original characters because we can't help but put something of us inside them: they always have some elements from us. Patience! Read and watch anime you like and try to find elements that are original so you can get inspiration.

Cache recently brought something up about character quick-sketches on Yahoo IM and that might actually be a great idea for getting you used to drawing new original characters. Up to explaining the details, Cache?

A really good way to learn to draw more characters ( or think of new ones ) is to do fanfics! Eventually, you will incorporate male or female characteristics into your OT's.

There are three important things about female characters... hair color and length, eye color and size, and breast size. Figure out those three things, her personality is simple. Pink long hair with big blue eyes and big breasts, she's sorta ditzy and flirty. Short black hair with small green eyes and flat-chested, she's scheming and manipulative. See, simple :-)
