Your Anime to Watch List?
« on: December 08, 2016, 05:31:59 PM »
Admit it, we all have that 'list' of recommended anime we say we're 'definitely' going to watch but never get around to doing. How large is yours? How badly do you want to see some of them without just giving up and spoiling the endings for yourself?

You can post your whole list or whatever comes to mind, but i'll start with my guilt trip from hell, because what use is an anime lover who doesn't watch anime?

1-Nekomonogatari White
2- Kabukimonogatari
3- Otorimonogatari
4- Onimonogatari
5- Koimonogatari
6- Hanamonogatari
7- Tsukimonogatari
8- Owarimonogatari
9- Koyomonogatari
10- Kizumonogatari
11- Mushishi Season 1 and 2
12 - Ayakashi

To be continued...

What about you gals and guys?

Shows to Finish
Revolutionary Girl Utena
You're Under Arrest
Cowboy Bebop
Soul Eater
Excel Saga
El Cazador
Shakugan no Shana III
Code Geass R2
Amagami SS
Strawberry Panic
Bakemonogatari

Watch List
Yurikuma Arashi
Hajime no Ippo New Challenger + Rising
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood (Too many episodes, I can barely do shows with more then 12 these days)
Silver Spoon Season 2
Kanon
Hyouka
xxxHOLiC
Humanity Has Declined
Moyashimon
Detroit Metal City
Special A
Gunbuster
The Pet Girl of Sakurasou
Urusei Yatsura (Okay...this is WAY too many episodes but you never know)
Michiko & Hatchin

Lots of stuff. In general I'd like to watch more shoujo and 90's shows. Since I've been watching a lot of airing shows I've not done a lot of old shows this year, some of these shows have been on my list for 3 years.

Michiko to Hatchin! Humanity Has Declined! Watch those man.

I'm surprised you didn't see Detroit Metal City. Weren't they pretty much your thing?

Have you ever watched BECK?

I need to watch more 90s shows too. I just remembered The Big O. Man I loved the feel of that one.

Michiko & Hatchin is one of the higher priority shows, Humanity Has Declined seems fun as well. More interesting kind of shows I assume. Detroit Metal City I should've seen by now given the KISS themes but I haven't got around to it yet. BECK I have not seen, maybe one day.

90's shows have a certain feel that I like, however when watching the shows they are sort of off putting next to what we have today. It's a big switch in mood, tone and pacing. I also don't always like the old style, but there is a thing that makes me feel oddly nostalgic for a time I have no nostalgia for. Like looking at anime ads in 90's comics, it feels like looking at such a different time. I get the same feeling looking at VHS quality TV rips of commercials and stuff, and also talk shows. There is something very specific that makes me feel a specific thing and I have no idea what it is. Like a dream or fantasy of a world that is no more, or maybe never was.

That's exactly the feel here. I'm addicted to Retrowave now and keep on running into old school rock songs that just do it for me. I'm still convinced those times were epic though in terms of expression and what not.

I don't think they actually where, think of how it is now you can put anything out on the internet, songs, comics etc. random people couldn't just make songs in their basements like today, but without being in the times it feels like some kind of fantasy. Old anime reminds me of being in the comic store and looking at the anime VHS covers. It was odd but fascinating in a "I'll look at this here but never anywhere else" kind of way. The whole comic store used to feel like that, you just look at the comics in wrap and the covers are always more interesting then what's inside. Hearing tales of people watching terrible fansubs on copied over tapes is so fascinating to me in an odd way.

Oh gawd how did all people even watch anime way back when. Fansubbers must've been true legends then.

Fansubbers have always been legends! We have it so good for anime these days, being able to find anything online, new shows on the same day, wow. Though it does sound like it was fun back in the day when people would huddle in the comic store and watch grainy as hell tapes of whatever random anime someone subbed with yellow text. I like to hear those stories, that's one reason why I like to watch VHS tapes and make  mixtapes, it makes me feel like...um I don't know. It's a weird novelty in a way. I'm sure it was no fun when that was the only option.

Indeed, indeed. I can still appreciate the hell out of it though. That makes me really want to finish what I can find asap instead of just letting it lie around there.

Taking on the 2017 anime watching challenge on MAL. Just doing the lowest difficulty to be realistic, gives me 21 shows, movies and OVAs to complete. The challenge is a thing where you get bingo cards randomly generated and there's a massive list of different types of shows and stuff to watch so you find series that fit the categories and...eh it's a whole thing. So I gotta do (subejct to change of course)...

Gokujo
Hataraki Man
BanG Dream!
Seiren
Special A
Michiko to Hatchin
Transformers Zone
xxxHOLiC
Little Witch Academia (TV)
FLCL
Belladonna of Sadness
Madoka Magica
Bubblegum Crisis
Fukumenkei Noise
Sakura Trick
Detroit Metal City
Gestalt
Revolutionary Girl Utena
Gunbuster
Urara Meirochou

Even in a year I doubt I can do some of these ones that aren't new shows but I'll try and we'll see what happens.

I got a lengthy list of recommendations from someone based on my tastes, and I'm trying to get started even with just one first.

Here are a few of what I'm planning to check out next:

Tokyo Ghoul (people have been recommending this to me forever... It's time to sit my ass down and watch it!)
Blood Lad (I LOVED the artstyle in the manga, but don't know anything about the story)
Re:zero

xxxHOLiC
Dolly Kill Kill
Soultaker
Katanagatari (I guess this one looks a bit lighthearted, looking at pictures)

1-Nekomonogatari White
5- Koimonogatari
6- Hanamonogatari
I loved these three especially.

10- Kizumonogatari
I dunno where I can watch part 3 yet, but part 1 and 2 are interesting. A change in style, a bit. More silence, rotoscoping, 3d animation, still with its zany post-modernist bent, though.

Katanagatari (I guess this one looks a bit lighthearted, looking at pictures)
Uh, well, that's complicated. Good series, though.

Kure-Nai
Good show. I definitely recommend this.

Detroit Metal City
I watched the first episode and didn't like it that much, but I was expecting something much more satirical than silly.

Need to finish Macross Frontier, watch Delta and Zero and the Frontier movies and maybe go back for II and 7, though I thought the first episodes for those two were pretty dumm.
