Thanks for the comment! I knew she would be a perfect fit for this song and ya a duet would be an interesting idea. I always go for trading off in these collab songs.

The guitars lacked for sure, I always base my songs on the guitar being the best part but this time it was the vocals being the best so I struggled to find a rhythm to play and what to play for the instrumental. Tempo changes scare me since I can just barely play in time to the metronome on the drums recently. The metronome has killed a few of my song ideas that I just have no idea what the timing is. But ya it would've made the chorus pop, I outta practice that.

Through the time I'm back with my 20th album!

I started my music recording journey 4 years ago and it's really surprising to me that I made it this far. I hit a massive writer's block after my previous album Closer To Clarity and it all paid off with this explosion of inspiration. Most of the songs are stand alone and the album just touches on themes of my life lately with a lot of Gundam references and Goof Rock elements. It has three sections in a way, the normal Kanttila album stuff, the acoustic based stuff and the Goof Rock.

You can hear my inspiration start to fade by the end however so I knew I had to cut the album. It was like a burst that lasted only about 3-4 weeks. I used a lot of bits and pieces I'd written over the last 11 months and tried to make this more melodic. I think this is one of my best albums, not better than Post America by any means but perhaps a close second or third. I'm happy with it overall and man it feels good to release another album after so long!

This is Slipping Through The Time!

20 albums, 2020, it all comes together for this 20 song compilation of the best and most representative songs I've made since beginning this musical journey 4 years ago. It features 6 songs from my first 2 years and 14 from the latest 2 years. I went with the 20 songs that show my music off the best. Many of them are very flawed but still show my progression. The only trouble was how many Post America songs to include since it's my best album. I went with four but I could of easily included seven.

It opens with easily my best song "Magnus Bridge". I just can't top that song, it was a total accident and I didn't know I was making my greatest track when I recorded some random alt tuning riffs. "Under The Skywalk" was a song I almost didn't include because of how bad my vocals are on it. However it captures a real emotion for me and I recorded it after my last shift of my third job, so it's very significant. "I Don't Know Love" I also debated about since it's how I used to feel before things changed but it's the first song I wrote of it's kind and it's certainly an important song for myself that shows how I felt at that time.

I could write forever about my own songs but like...why. So here is a compilation album. 20 Of The 20!

The Manimal's Music (NEW SONG)
« Reply #498 on: September 05, 2020, 08:44:29 AM »
The next set begins! This is my second collab with Cola, "Mystic Hour". I came up with the music/melody and she wrote the lyrics. I wanted us to sing together this time, unlike "Days Of Fire" where we traded off. This is certainly a different type of song for me. I have tried in the past to do acoustic songs with no drums but this is easily my most successful attempt at that, and it's all thanks to Cola for making this come together like it did.

I think part of why this worked is because it was in the works for a few weeks so it had a lot of time to sit. Instead of being rushed out as soon as I had the idea. I intend to make my next album more chill like this, but we'll see. I'm in no rush this time to make it fast. I'm just going to let the songs come when they do.

^^I think this is one of your best songs. Feels super cohesive and you are working well within your vocal range. Good job to you both :)

Here is a quick set of 6 covers I recorded this month. I had a lot of fun with this and aimed to make them loose and rocking. I have been improving a lot vocally this year, atleast I am a lot more confident singing now. Some of these songs I had trouble with but I figured out a way.

"S.O.S. (Too Bad)" is a great song from Aerosmith's Get Your Wings album. I tried a first take and I just couldn't get it down. Then I watched some live videos from 1977 and the band was so sloppy! It was awesome and Rock 'n Roll so it got me to loosen up and have fun. "Seventeen" is a song I started jamming with my friends. It's a good short one and I love singing it.

"Plaster Caster" was so much fun to do. My love for KISS is historically unsubtle and I've always found this song to be excessively good. Gene just sings about getting a plaster made of his dick but he wrote a really great tune for it. Love Gun is the classic KISS album for getting across the character of the band. It's a homebase record for me. On this song I loved doing the solo. I learned to solo from learning Ace's leads so...you know.

"English Civil War" is off one of my favorite Rock 'n Roll albums ever, Give 'Em Enough Rope. I love Joe Strummer's vocals on that song and I wanted to do it the best I could. "Heroes End" was a challenge only in the vocals because...I mean Rob Halford. That said the original song doesn't have much melody, which also added to the challenge. But I'm happy with what I did. "316" was a quick tribute for Eddie, just a short instrumental from For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. There is no other Van Halen song I could of possibly pulled off.

So that's the Cover EP Volume II, just some good fun.

The Manimal's Music (NEW SONG)
« Reply #501 on: January 28, 2021, 08:31:31 PM »
Just before FAWM starts I got a big collab song. It features our own Legomaestro and Vacant along with Cola who I previously sang "Mystic Hour" and "Days Of Fire" with and also a friend on the guitar solo. I'll let the song speak for itself. The track was recorded in April and I was going to get rid of it until I found a new use for it as my next album's closing track.

The Manimal's Music (NEW SONGS)
« Reply #504 on: February 22, 2021, 09:09:30 AM »
Thanks for the comments guys, it was a very fun song for sure!

My next album is nearing completion. Here are some songs from it which I've recorded in the last month.

This is the star of the show. One of those songs that has all my characteristics in it.

Bathing In The Morning
https://soundcloud.com/kanttilamusic/bathing-in-the-morning

This one is simple, steady and rhythm focused.

Rolling Girl, Factory Boy
https://soundcloud.com/kanttilamusic/rolling-girl-factory-boy

This is a Country styled tune with no electric guitar. It's vocal and lyric centric.

Cowboy Mythology
https://soundcloud.com/kanttilamusic/cowboy-mythololy

and this one is a collab duet. NO1SY helped me figure out what to play on the drums here. I ended up keeping it simple as can be to stay in the groove.

My dude! That actually turned out pretty sweet! Really captured that gamer attitude  Man I remember playing Smash Bros on the couch with my mates - 4 player, no items, final destination, just as described!! And Nuketown in Black Ops!

The guitar and bass work are really stand-out in the track. The solo is so cool! And the lick at 2:34! The bass is doing some things distinct from the guitars also, which I always like to hear.

Even better is that you really did sit right in that pocket when drumming along with that main riff, and the fill turned out fantastic - dropping the double triplet flourish I was suggesting in the middle actually made it sound very clean instead of just being flashy!

The Drum Solo...
I heard that accidental stick click in the drum solo at the end though....! Something to note going forward about drum solos is that it's not all about playing super-fast rolls (and if it is then the rolls have to be really nice and even and well-timed). The initial flam build-up into the drum solo sounded awesome and you could have spent some more bars just developing those flams into a rhythm with more notes before transitioning into a roll that was a bit more measured. For instance a simple but effective roll that sounds good even if you slow it down a little is HighTom - Snare - Snare - Snare - MidTom - Snare - Snare - Snare - FloorTom - Snare - Snare- Snare - FloorTom - Snare - Snare - Snare - with a straightforward RLRLRLRLRLRLRLRL sticking. Then you can lead into a half-time roll on the snare RLRLRLRL and then finish out with some back and forth on the cymbals. Even improvised solos by professionals are usually made up of well practiced and throught through parts by the musician, and it turns out better sounding than if you just hit everything you can as fast as you can at random.

Really nice stuff here, keep it up!
