Thanks. They're based off of the meteor hammer and those ball-and-chain things you see on cartoon prisoners' ankles. If I could draw it better, you'd see that they're attached to the braces on his wrists.

I've got another drawing I put together this evening as a celebration for finishing senior capstone presentations.

This one was a bit frustrating because he's supposed to have a ponytail, but I can't get the dynamics right with it flowing behind him... Maybe I'll figure it out later.

cool character designs, nice to see your still working on your art.
it's a common thing to be dissatisfied with your artwork, or even not be able to draw an aspect in the first place. practice and observation will help overcome that in time :P

overall I think your clothes need more details, such as pockets, seams, folds and creases etc. but your faces are pretty stylized and cool. nice fireball effect on the last one.

Thanks for the tip. I agree that clothes need more detail, but I find myself getting lazy with stuff like that.

I’m actually really happy with the fireball. I’ve had such a hard time drawing fire in the past that this feels like a small victory.

I totally know what that's like. If I was less lazy I would be in a much better position art wise haha

small victories make the path to learning a skill more bearable :)
drawing fire, explosions, or any magical effect can be a tad tricky. I usually copy stuff from manga to get the feel I want since there are many ways and styles to draw those sort of things.

I can't get enough drawing these wacky dorks. The stripes on that shirt make me unreasonably angry though.

haha I've just started adding stripes and patterns to all my characters outfits, I really makes me realise how contours and body shapes work. keep it up :P

nice poses, they look like a fun bunch to hang out with :P

This one was me trying to draw based on references.

Apparently reference images are witchcraft!

Yes, yes they are :P

great face and nice muscles on that latest character. and since I'm working on it as well I notice you're showing the thickness of the clothing nicely!
would be great to see some shade and a shadow to make it more real.

I’ve tried shading, but it always looks weird when I do it. I know I should practice anyway, but I always put it off.

That's the most annoying thing about art, the thing you're worst at is really the thing you need to be doing the most but you feel weird doing it XD
Maybe try copying other artworks and their shading to get a feel for it until you can do it yourself.
Especially if you're working digital, you can put the shade on a different layer, and start again if you don't think you've got it right. And another tip that I keep forgetting, the lineart itself can be helpful if you draw clothing folds and so on, you mostly just have to follow those lines to get your shaded area.
