Themed Playlists
« on: January 01, 2016, 10:12:52 PM »
WHAT UP EVERYONE!?

So, a new year begins and NO1SY has found himself new ways to procrastinate...

I.E. I want to start posting thematic playlists for a while!

These will be playlists of up to 25 songs max, based around a different theme each time.

Of course, these are songs that are on my radar and so I'm sorry if I don't include songs that you think belong in the theme (space is also a factor here too...)

If anyone wants to post their own themed playlists to the thread that is 100% completely cool, just keep it in a similar format and don't make them too long...

OK!

So to kick things off, since it's just been the New Year, I thought I'd make a playlist of some of my musical highlights from 2015.

These are all songs from full length albums that released last year and I felt really stood out to me. I actually ran out of space as I didn't want to make these playlists any longer than 25 songs long... there was just so much good music released last year!

It's obviously a very personal and subjective playlist - it's pretty easy to tell from the offset! - so I would love to see what other people's playlists of 2015 releases are too :)

Looking Back - 2015

TesseracT - Polaris - “Hexes”
Crossfaith - Xeno - “Ghost in the Mirror”
Lamb of God - VII: Sturm Und Drang - “Erase This”
Bullet for my Valentine - Venom - “No Way Out”
Coldrain - Vena - “Gone”
Devil You Know - They Bleed Red - “Stay of Execution”
Enter Shikari - The Mindsweep - “The Last Garrison”
Bring Me the Horizon - That’s the Spirit - “True Friends”
Trivium - Silence in the Snow - “Blind Leading the Blind”
Soilwork - The Ride Majestic - “The Ride Majestic”
Voices From The Fuselage - Odyssey: The Destroyer of Worlds - “Inner Child”
Veil of Maya - Matriarch - “Aeris”
Sleeping with Sirens - Madness - “Kick Me”
Periphery - Juggernaut: Alpha - “Alpha”
Parkway Drive - Ire - “Crushed”
Chon - Grow - “Splash”
August Burns Red - Found in Far Away Places - “Ghosts”
Stick to your guns - Disobedient - “Nothing you can do to me”
Breaking Benjamin - Dark Before the Dawn - “Breaking the Silence”
I The Mighty - Connector - “The Lying eyes of Miss Erray”
Coheed and Cambria - The Color Before the Sun - “Island”
While She Sleeps - Brainwashed - “Our Legacy”
Blind Guardian - Beyond the Red Mirror - “Prophecies”
Fightstar - Behind the Devil’s Back - “Murder All Over”
Jarred Alonge - Sunrise Skater Kids - Beating a dead horse - “First World Tragedy”

I hope everyone enjoys :) It was a great 2015 and looking forward to an even better 2016!

Ha ha, love that scene where Squid Girl rocks out. Good thread idea, always like new ways to post music I like. I could make a lot of playlists for sure. I almost don't want to post actually as to not break the thread so will edit this post later with something. I don't want to trample on your show either, but some things I can't resist.

I'd do a 2015 one but it'd have like 10 songs so I'll instead do a simple theme first and maybe my favourite.

Escape

Songs that take you into their world for a little while as they either create a vivid landscape around you with sound or create images with powerful lyrics. This is a personal one and a lot of these songs are more so sentimental. But they all do the job of putting me into their worlds.

Bruce Springsteen : Thunder Road
Don Henley : The Boys Of Summer
Paul McCartney & Wings : Band On The Run
Nagi Yanagi : Vidro Moyou
Daft Punk : Digital Love
Deadmau5 : The Veldt
Airwave Vs. Rising Star : Sunspot (DCML Mix)
Hatsune Miku : Proof Of Existence
John Lennon : #9 Dream
Mikuni Shimokawa : Sore Ga Ai Deshou
Utada Hikaru : DISTANCE
The Rolling Stones : Waiting On A Friend
Michael Jackson : Human Nature
YUI : SUMMER SONG
Choucho : Sleeping Butterfly
Bob Dylan : Like A Rolling Stone
Bruce Springsteen : Born To Run

Time for another playlist!

EPs just don't get enough love... often forgotten as fillers while fans are waiting in-between big albums from artists that they like, they often get treated with the attitude that "the best songs will end up on the next album". But I'm here to tell you that EPs are absolutely worth listening to in their own right.

Sometimes they kickstart bands' success and sometimes they give them a chance for creative expression that they can't otherwise show on their usual releases. At the end of the day EPs can quietly house some of a band's best songs and completely deserve your attention as much as a full length album.

And so, this one is titled:

The Cherry On Top

Rest, Repose - The Sleep City EP - “Sleep City”
Sikth - Opacities EP - “Philistine Philosophies”
Port Noir - Neon EP - “Heathens”
Arcane Roots - Heaven & Earth EP - “If Nothing Breaks, Nothing Moves”
Fort Hope - Fort Hope EP - “Plans”
Children of Nova - The Complexity of Light EP - “The Complexity of Light”
I the Mighty - Karma Never Sleeps EP - “Escalators”
Colours - Skin and Bones EP - “The Machine” (They took down the original video so you'll have to get through the super heavy metal channel intro on this video before the actual song starts... I promise that the song isn't metal at all.)
Mandroid Echostar - Self Titled EP - “The Precursor”
Dir En Grey - The Unravelling EP - “Unravelling”
Enter Shikari - Rat Race EP - “Radiate”
Fightstar - A City on Fire EP - “A City on Fire”
Funeral for a Friend - The Young and Defenceless EP - “Serpents in Solitude”
Hands like Houses - Reimagine EP - “Release (A Tale of Outer Suburbia)”
Hopes Die Last - Wolfpack EP - “The Wolfpack”
Coldrain - Through Clarity EP - “No Escape”
In Flames - The Mirror’s Truth EP - “Tilt”
Periphery - Icarus EP - “Captain On”
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - The Hell or High Water EP - “Hell or High Water”
The Word Alive - Empire EP - “Casanova Rodeo”
Young Guns - Mirrors EP - “There will be Rain”
The Fall of Troy - Phantom on the Horizon EP - “Chapter II: A Strange Conversation”

Started on a 2015 playlist mainly with songs from any time period that I was really digging into this year. Ended up with some 50 songs.

Hence I didn't post it. I'll post something eventually, though.
