Favorite Manga Drawing Tools
« on: March 10, 2014, 03:27:23 PM »
What are your favorite drawing supplies to use? For manga or other types of art?
The stuff I use is in the list below
G pen
Maru pens
Black calligraphy ink
Mechanical pencil
0.5 pencil lead
White eraser(Honestly I think the pink ones suck )
Sketch book(For practice)
8.5" x 11" printer paper(For practice and storyboards)
A4 printer paper(For manga pages)
And last but not least...Sticky notes
I'm a fool...but I'm nobody's fool!

Smooth surface Bristol paper if I'm doing a large drawing or something that's going to have a lot of ink/color
A standard drawing paper pad/sketchbook for regular drawings/sketches
0.5mm mechanical pencil
A large eraser (I'm not picky as long as it doesn't smudge)
A stick eraser (If that's the right word? xD)
A clear ruler if I need to draw straight lines
Sakura Micron inking pens (Once I get enough practice with these, I'd like to try a dip pen like Maru pens.)
Wacom Bamboo tablet
Prismacolor colored pencils

And... Yeah. That's pretty much it haha. As for coloring, I've been trying to get into more traditional stuff. I like digital because I have so much more available to me that way... But I've got some watercolors/watercolor paper I really need to play with, and I'd really like to use my colored pencils more.  ::)

My ballpoint pens, hands down. I can't draw with pencil well, so I have a variety of ballpoint pens that I sketch fast ideas with. :D

You're a ballpoint pen artist too!? Let's form a secret club haha.

A ruler and mechanical pencil have been great additions to my set. I also added a carpet knife to sharpen my pencils. I'm looking for a 15cm ruler though, because the 30cm is a bit bulky in an annoying way.

I started drawing with a "colerase" carmine red pencil over the last few months and enjoy it a lot cause i can ink over top of it and scan it in without worrying about cleaning up my final work in photoshop as much as i would do with normal pencil.

paper is strathmore bristol
sketchbook is strathmore "sketch" series, but im finding the paper too thin compared to their 200 or 300 pads
gpen and speedball nibs
and Calli brand india ink, mainly cause i have it on hand already, but im open to trying something else.

 Talk about professionals! I only use a normal HB pencil, ballpoint pen, rubber and, if I find one thats not broken, ruler.
Hidden.

Don't let the name/brand of any particular art tool be the reason to assume that they're professional or be the reason to feel demotivated at your current art tools . A real professional (or any knowledgeable artists for that matter) is the kind that can work with anything that is given to them . Even a humble coal used for barbeque can be usable to them (yes , you can draw something out of it) .
