I just checked plane ticket prices because I was curious and I gotta say if the Canadian Dollar wasn't so weak and London wasn't that far then it would still be too expensive. Over $1200 for the cheapest ticket round trip.

I wonder if I leave in a raft right now if I would make it in time... :hmm:

Well most people who know the word anyways know how to use it properly, it's really just a certain rhythm, but learning it (but having forgotten the name) was definitely one of the more amusing things about the English language I've come across.

General Manga writer discussions / Re: Discussion on short stories.
« on: July 08, 2016, 12:10:48 PM »
I don't think waiting a month is a big deal so long as people enjoy reading it. There are monthly manga chapter releases and though the fans of those series would like it to be weekly it's not as if they're physically unable to wait, it's more of something to mark on a calendar and look forward to.

Not sure why you wouldn't just write an actual novel though if you plan to write individual pieces that tell a bigger story, unless you're going for a wow or artistic effect which I do get. To be honest though if I were to pick up a book of collected short stories I would prefer they were their own pieces. Something to enjoy in a short time of reading where I can pick up the book anytime to finish a story in one go.

Then again I've only done short stories for school work and my opinion is pretty bias due to my limited exposure to the format so take what I say with a spoonful of salt.

From a Google search:
Spoiler
Quote
early 16th century: of Germanic origin (compare Swedish dialect focka and Dutch dialect fokkelen ); possibly from an Indo-European root meaning ‘strike,’ shared by Latin pugnus ‘fist.’

Though apparently the definitive etymology is uncertain because the word's usage dates back to as early as the 1300's.

My own favourite thing about the word though is that in a Linguistics class I took taught (forgot what it was called) us how to use it properly in things like:

Hilarious>Hi-*ucking-larious is correct whereas Hilar-*ucking-ious is wrong. Another example being Fantastic>Fan-*ucking-tastic.

Yeah, I just realized that joke was funny cause it relied on that specific pun. Which is actually used plenty in dirty english language jokes. Maybe not the best example.

Do you need a dirty joke? Here's on courtesy of r/jokes.

Spoiler
A teenage boy was delivering papers to an apartment house. While there, a stunning young woman came out of the apartment next to the mailboxes wearing only a robe. The boy smiled at the young woman and she started up a conversation with him. As they talked, her robe slipped open, and it was obvious that she had nothing else on. The poor kid broke into a sweat trying to maintain eye contact.
After a few minutes of flirting, she placed her hand on his arm and said, "Let's go to my apartment, I hear someone coming."
He followed her into her apartment; she closed the door and leaned against it, allowing her robe to fall off completely. Now nude, she purred at him, "What would you say is my best feature?"
Flustered and embarrassed, he finally squeaked, "It has to be your ears."
Astounded, and a little hurt she asked, "My ears? Look at these breasts; they are a full 38 inches and 100 percent natural. I work out every day and my ass is firm and solid. I have a 28 inch waist. Look at my skin, not a blemish anywhere. How can you think that the best part of my body is my ears?"
Clearing his throat, he stammered, "Outside, when you said you heard someone coming...that was me."

@Lego: Are you explaining the concept or specific jokes? Cause either one seems a strange thing to do. Like, "It's funny cause...sex?"

I have a Rock Band mic I could use...I will try that next time, I just used my phone for this and I didn't play around with positioning it all that much. "Koi no Uta", my God that episode was amazing right? Best of the show and one of my very favourite anime episodes. I can hear it in the scratchy rhythm and chords.

Seriously? I would have thought a musician like yourself would have some studio quality mic around. It seems like a waste not to have something awesome to record with. Makes me guilty for having a Blu Snowball mic and barely using it. If anything good came out of Tamako Market (though I did like the anime) it was "Koi no Uta" by Dynamite Beans.

Do you have an actual mic for recording music or do you only have a phone/computer microphone available? I was just wondering. Not sure if this needs mentioning but for some reason your song reminded me of "Koi no Uta" from Tamako Market.

I'm pretty terrible at most things musical but I did enjoy that song. It's my kind of tune to listen to, vocals or not.

It did sound a bit messy to me like you said but good.

I think the image with the pixellation is just the fact that the images have been resized too small. Try using a larger image size, it's really only an issue when you use full screen since it enlarges/zooms making it more apparent.

I've never been clear on this. Is it the MR Public chat linked on the main site or is this another group?
