Oh it's not a problematic question, I guess I just didn't understand what you were asking. Do you mean how I start an image if I want to draw a cute girl character? If that's the case it usually starts with the pose, I'll either come up with one or find references for one. For the character's faces, I just use the old tricks of the trade. Small noses, large eyes, a little bit of blush and make up.

I guess that in general, it all comes from the idea. What kind of cuteness do I want to draw, what kind of emotions do I want to communicate? Are they a genki tom girl? Or are they shy and reserved? What kind of outfit would they wear? To be a bit more candid about it, what parts of this character can I fetishize in a small way? Is it their face, neck, arms, chest, abdomen etc etc... It all comes down to what YOU think is cute and how you want to represent it. As for studying upper limb muscles, I'll look into it.

Something a bit different this time, I've been doing a fanart piece that involves making my own OC Persona character. Heres a sketch of my Persona and some deets on the character

It's more an indication that I do one type of pose too much honestly, I would never recommend skipping the construction process though, I'm just personally really lazy sometimes haha.

Not much today, just a quick portrait sketch and a lewd on ecchiworld while I continue grinding away these images.

Definitely very reminiscent of the popular art styles on Tumblr, which is 100% not a bad thing at all. I love the soft colors and the designs are quite charming. I'd love to see some full figures from you next! Definitely looking forward to more or your work.

Your arts really good! I'm always envious of people that can draw so well traditionally, something I can only barely manage. I really like the outfit designs for your characters, they're really detailed and work quite well. The only thing I can nitpick is it seems like your figures tend to use the same leg positions with the hip raised mid movement, it's a very dynamic pose but some of them are very similar between figures.

The only other thing I can notice is very much a nitpick as it could be a stylistic decision. For some reason, to me it seems like your character's heads are quite large. This could be because they are children, but it seems to be consistent across several characters. Now this normally isn't an issue but it was the very first thing I noticed and I THINK it's because the proportions seem a little bit off, even for children. For example, the latest sketch you did of the witch figure's head is about the same size as her entire upper body down to the pelvis, but her arms are very small and her legs are quite long in relation to the torso.

Overall though I think you're work is fantastic and I'm really just nitpicking here! Keep it up.

@Killer B

I can post my step by step for how I start a picture if you're curious but yeah I use broken glass a tablet to draw with. As for how I start, I just plop down the torso or head somewhere on the page and construct a figure from there. I'll generally have an idea of how what kind of pose I want to do before I start drawing though. After the construction of the pose, I'll fill in a rough sketch, followed by a cleaner sketch with some shading/tones/lighting then I'll move on to a finalized colored version if I decide to color it.

Here's a step by step sample on the latest piece I'm working on:
(Just for clarity's sake, from left to right the characters are: Mordred, Okita + Nobunaga, Jeanne D'arc, Arjuna)

Step 1: Figure construction
I do this for every figure in the picture unless it's a pose I'm very familiar with (there is no construction for Nobunaga for that reason, the couch is also referenced from a picture)

Step 2: Sketch
This is the rough sketch where I turn the figures into somewhat fleshed out characters. You'll find during this phase a lot of the figures have changed a bit from my construction, I usually get feedback at this point from others in the Discord.

Step 3: Quick Shading
I do a very fast pass of shading over the picture to get a general idea where the lighting will be

Step 4: A lot of stuff
From this point on, I clean up lines and finalize design elements, followed by toning and more processed shading. After this, I color and do another pass of much cleaner shading along with lighting.

This image is still a work on progress though, it's my F/GO team that I'll be turning into a banner for my social media!

Hope this helps!

@fcollot & mahlua
Thanks guys, I'm glad you can relate with the character! I'll be doing a final pass at her later today and I'll keep your suggestions in mind Mahlua, thanks for the feedback.

Just poppin in to say this was a good read! Thanks for sharing these, hopefully we'll see some full stories crafted around this lore soon. The level of depth you've gone into is quite impressive and I love the names you've used, I got a very Valkyria Chronicles vibe from some of this and though I've only played the first game I quite enjoyed it. Keep it up!

That's really cool that you're gonna be modelling, rigging and animating all these characters! Can't wait to see them in action.

Feelsman I knew you always had my back

Initial character design for the drummer girl in Throwing Fire! Her name is Jesse Taylor, 24 year old freelance model with a degree in English she never used. Her real passion is music, but living in NYC isn't cheap and just getting by after a day of hard work leaves her without motivation to continue chasing her passion.

WIP Sketch Cover Art for a short comic I'm gonna try to make! Emphasis on /try/ ._.

It's called Throwing Fire, a short story about how 2 people find and connect with each other across the world through their music. The story focuses on their struggle to make their mark on the world despite having never met each other once in real life. I wanted to write about that "fire" that ignites between creative souls when they are willing to cross any distance, close any gap and conquer any foe to reach their goals!

Thanks Gaff! Yeah Shadowrun's aesthetic tends to be quite grungy.

Here's a colored version of Truth!

Thanks Legoman, once again really appreciate the support. So kind of unintended but neat anyway, I actually did not want to create a Christmas color scheme lmao, not that it's a bad thing or anything.

Mucking around with colors a bit to try and get out of that red/white, I think this is too saturated and I'm losing detail so I'll be playing around with this a bit more before I Ink her.

Alternate color scheme:

Next class! This time in fancy greyscale with a tiny splash of color, I feel like this is one of my more professional looking pieces:

Spoiler

Class: Code name [ Truth ]

Description: Hollow knights that faithfully serve the Church as watchdogs. These empty warriors are former sinners who visited the Inner World and have been captured and rehabilitated by the Church. They now serve as hounds that hunt for others that have touched the Inner World. "Truth" as they are known, are powerful close range fighters that have immense resistance against Inner Lore and creatures from the Inner World. They are dependent on their life partners known as Code name [Revelation] for guidance and survival.

Unique restrictions: This class has a unique restriction regarding its function. "Truth" are created by the Church and serve as thralls, however they are always paired with another class called "Revelation". These two classes MUST work in tandem, one cannot survive without the other and thus selecting this class also requires another to play the role of "Revelation".

Weapons: Plasma Greatsword, an immensely dangerous close range weapon that does 100% Energy damage, but no physical damage.

Can optionally wield a Plasma Shield for defense. Prevents Truth from 2handing their weapon, reducing damage.

Starting skills:
At the Gate - Truth is permanently tethered to Revelation. If the tether is broken either through distance or Revelation's death, Truth will also instantly perish. The closer Truth and Revelation are, the stronger the tether is granting bonuses to stats.

Soul Stream - Truth prevents Revelation from decaying. Any damage that Truth deals will restore Revelation's HP.

Partial Existence - Truth can briefly phase in and out of the Inner World, giving the impression they can teleport. Can be used to avoid damage.

Martial Cadence - Consecutive attacks against the same target multiplies Truth's damage.

Armor: Heavy

Favored Stats: Strength + Vitality

Role: Front line Tank or Fighter

Slight change of plans, decided to paint this for the sake of completion! Here's the next step, it's still a WIP as I haven't inked the tattoos yet, its just an overlay of the sketch from my previous post. I'm quite happy with this so far!
