I can say for one that a tablet is very useful, it is sometimes impossible to have nice lines that are drawn with a mouse, some lines simply don't feel 'natural', in a sense.

As for a tablet, the first time you use a tablet, it will take quite a bit of getting used to, but there are really cheap tablets around if you know where to look, and if you don't have a budget, you can always find one on ebay for cheap (though they are mainly chinese suppliers).

If you are willing to invest in your art, then by all means invest in a tablet. I'm not an arts student of any sort - i don't do art or any art-like subject, but i own a Wacom Pen and Touch Small, as i draw for a hobby.

I, too, own a Wacom Intuous (p/t) small. I found that in CSP, there's actually an option which allows you to 'smooth' out your own curves - it's an inbuilt feature:




Press the (>) arrow if you want to modify the exact value

If that doesn't work, then in CSP, you can try vector graphics/lines.
First, create a new vector layer:



Then draw any line on the layer. If you don't like it, hold Control (CTRL) on your keyboard and click on the line:



This will allow you to edit that line directly. (remember to hold control)

What program do you use for drawing manga?

I use Clip Studio Paint :P I have about 690 days left on it. I started with photoshop, but moved towards CSP once i got it, it was hard to learn...

if you are brand new to drawing i would trace for a while so you can train your hand and your eye. 20hrs will get you past the learning curve and get you comfortable and you wont want to quit. try tracing a page that you think is really cool and then try copying it. it will most likely suck but who cares, do it again and again until it doesnt suck. if you are tying to learn to draw with a tablet then you also have the problems associated with that, like wobbly lines etc, that takes about 3 months or so of constant use to get past, so its easier to draw with a pencil on paper.

I used to sketch 'things' in my books, but i moved to digital sketching once i started working on other projects (I 3D model, you see).

I had done some tracing in the past on PS (actual trace lol) and i'm somewhat on my way to drawing something nice. It's really hard to say because i've been on and off every so often

In order to practice drawing in general, I've decided that I should draw one original character per day, and I've been at this for the last four days - and my most recent work (today) is this:



This character is substantially better than all my other ones I've drawn - I still have to practice colouring in as well.

Oh, and, I drew her using that I learned from the date of my original post (10/10) till now.

Hello, I'm a high-schooler who's always been interested in anime/manga, however, I have never really found any way to work at it, so to speak.

I'm new to art as a whole, I own a Wacom Intuous (P/T) Small and I also have access to Clip Studio Paint.

What I've found my problem to be is that I don't work well with a lot of the online tutorials and whatnot, it's hard to figure out what to do and I've always been at a loss at what to do next.
So I decided to join this forum to find some help, in a sense. I didn't notice an 'introduce yourself' section so that's why I'm posting this in 'General Discussion.'

I've heard that the best way to learn to draw (manga) is to start off my copying (or tracing) characters, but I'm not entirely sure at this point. Aside from that, I have close to zero experience in drawing.

I hope that I'll be able to find some friends here to help me out.
