Develop Your Story / Re: Designing a strong woman
« on: January 30, 2015, 10:45:43 PM »
Thank you guys all for your input! This isnt a character I would call a butch or necessarily manly xD.  Though she does have a slight tom boy side, not really into girly things, but she still has a feminine side. Im really enjoying how far this thread has went, and Im considering all of your comments while further developing this character.

Great Question. Contrary to popular belief Comics, and Anime are not written in the same format as Novels, or Screenplays. I write all of these, however there are differences and for good reasoning.

When and if you ever submit your manga for publication, or to an artist they are going to look for it to be in a special format. This begins witht he synopsis, which varies in length from story to story, but is about 1-3 pages in general. After the synopsis the script is being broken down into page summaries, panels, actions details and dialogues. This video gives an indebt explanation

I highly suggest clicking that link, also here are some actual published comic strips.

General Manga writer discussions / Re: How do I make it different
« on: January 25, 2015, 11:02:32 PM »
I'd grab inspiration from characters, Its a skateboarding manga, so I imagine its modern and realistic (lacking alot of fantasy elements). What I would do if this were me and only a suggestion, is to make it very character centered, and from a 3rd person omnicient POV.

So focus on all of the characters personal lives, drama and troubles, what skateboarding means to them and what brings them together. Its not about the races, or whose the fastest or can the most tricks, but rather what drives those characters to even step on the boards.

Or You could go real Comedy Based, its up to you though, all depends on your writing style and what your comfortable writing.

Develop Your Story / Designing a strong woman

Hey guys heres my first post in a long time, Im sorry I dont post often but I have been rally busy and Im still not so acclimated into the community in order to use this as a platform. Anyway heres my dilenma.

The character design process for me can take forever, Im really picky and anal about my art, especially the characters so it usually takes several tens of redraws to get a character I like. Anyway, I have been designing a princess who is also part of the main cast of my project "Aevum". I've named her Kendall for now but even that is not set in stone. Here is a picture of her.

So she is a princess but hopefully you get a different vibe from her than what her title would insinuate. Im trying to make this a really strong character and at the same time she is the love interest of the main character. Its been difficult, does anyone have any tips on developing her into something way more than just a love interest? I have things like back story and motifs but I want more, I want her to be iconic, and to be a great representation of women in the Anime medium. So what can any of you say on designing strong women?

Also any examples of strong women in anime? Like other than Korra from LoK

School Dayz without a doubt. Then theres Chrome Shelled Regios, I was able to watch all of it but the characters were so terribly developed and cliche. I hated the Gantz anime, but the manga is decent.

Embarrassingly enough I dont have any Anime pictures to post. Two of my sketchbooks were recently stolen too, so the option of taking any pictures or scanning is officially Dead. Though I do have some sketches I've done last year and earlier than that I hope you enjoy. Though I'll be searching through my old facebook and whatnot for any anime pictures I may have drawn.

"Iron Man" Time:4-6 hours?

"Alicia Keys" Time:4 hours

"Taco(OFWGKTA)" Time: Im not completley sure, I did it in school so about 1 and a half blocks.. 2 and a half hours?

I dont even know this girls name, shes some model or actress, I did this in one class block, Which I think is like 1 hour and a half. Possibly. (Dont kill me over the eyes I remember the lights being off when I did this)
