I don't know if anyone use this term already, but as you may see; something that mentally blocks you from drawing is called "Art Block", and a racing between two largest nations of the world to develop space technogoly is called "Space Race". So if I am referring to a struggle to improve your drawing skills to get better than another's, then I will call it as Art Race.
It's what I am facing, and in my opinion it's not a bad thing because it makes you improve, and hopefully that opinion is not only a selfish one.
Since I joined CTS webboard around October 2009, I saw a good artist whose skills are much admired by fellow members. Here are the example of his artwork:

Around that time I developed a thought that the level of his skills could be in my reach, and eventually announced that I would get better than him before the year ends, despite someone said it's not possible.
But a year has passed, and I failed to do it so far. We have been like two curves which slowly lead to almost parallel lines that could not be met. I wasn't even considering that despite his already great skill, he still had a big chance to improve more. Although he seems to be a busy man and addicted to games and anime, his awareness of my "art race" still pushes his skills further. But in some reasons I still have no thoughts of giving up, or an exact time to prove the challenge neither.
Another case is By~ne, a 15 years old artist who began drawing as soon as he entered school. At the first time we met, his skills were just like another developing members, with extra will to improve

But I still admire his hand-made lines, effects, and his motivation is the most of all.
Sometimes you judge anyone else's skills as better than yours and get demotivated, drived, or envy. But at the same time that person may be looking at you with the same way you do, only difference is which quality that make us admire each other.
In August 2008, By~ne, me and a few CTS members were invited to talk with a manager of a comic studio, about opportunity of being a manganist in Thailand. By~ne had a chance of being a trainee in that studio and he took it. And a very few days ago he was promoted as a manganist assistance. Here are some of his drawing he rarely uploads since that August.

His drawing styles changed and leaves no trace of his own style before, There are more drawings I couldn't find, but I saw that obviously his skills surpassed many fellow members. No wonder how. It's his dream from the start, and he never hesitates to take any chance towards it.
And this time is for the artist who many people admired as mastered the art of moe. He's [Ph]antom_Wor[th].

Even though it's hard to admit, his drawing style is a really big influence of mine.
But recently he has been heavily addicted to online games and he did not draw anything for six months. Now his skill is degrading. In my eyes, that attraction of his drawings is missing. It's next to impossible to point out where to improve and get his skill back. I had some chance to talk to him and tried to help anyway, covertly using the knowledge of influence I took from him. But it's still unclear if he will continue drawing for long.
The art race has been keeping me practicing. But on the way I made friend with many artists. I see developing artist rises, and great artist falls. I am not exactly racing with anyone right now, but I still look up and want to get better, as good as professional ones and beyond, and always believe it's possible.
