Chapter 2: Acceptance
Yoh carried his brother on the street that led home (thank God the park was close to his place!) and stopped in front of the door listening. No sounds could be heard inside the house.
So his friends had left, but one problem still remained. Anna.
Yoh tried to push the door slowly, using his right foot as his arms were busy. It was a difficult task and Yoh mentally swore; both his hands were busy holding his brother careful not to wake him so he maintained balance with only one foot. But after some more effort he managed to open it.
He entered the house; it was dark everywhere. For the first time, it seemed like Anna had gone to bed without waiting for him.
Passing by her room, he saw the blonde’s head resting on the pillow; Anna was sleeping like an angel. Yoh smiled to himself and walked on.
He arrived in front of his room and found the door opened; sighting relieved he walked in and placed Hao on his bed. He changed Hao’s soaked clothes and gave him some of his own, then tucked him in and went into the kitchen to eat a burger.
Anna’s eyes opened slowly, hearing noise downstairs. She knew Yoh had come back and she decided to go get a glass of water.
“Yoh, you’re back!” she said almost surprising him. “Hey, you know you’re not supposed to eat that!”
She took the burger out of his hands and put it back into the fridge.
Then, she scanned Yoh’s red face (red from the cold) thinking what to do to him for this, when she suddenly felt a strange aura that she hadn’t felt ever since…
“Hao! He must be up to some killing; get ready, Yoh!” she said, narrowing her eyes.
“Anna, I can explain” Yoh said in a squeaky voice.
“Explain, Yoh? Explain what?!” Anna turned surprised.
“I…” Yoh swallowed hard. “I brought him here”
“YOU DID WHAT?!” she yelled. “HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN THE PART WHERE HE NEARLY KILLED YOU AND TRIED TO RIDTH THE WORLD OF ALL HUMANS?!”
“Anna, please, just let me explain!”
“Explain” she said, fire burning in her eyes.
Yoh gulped.
“I found him frozen on a bench in the park. He lost his companions and has no Spirit of Fire, he could have died out there! So I took him here”
“Yoh, you have a good heart and that can cause you a lot of trouble. Hao is simply…evil”
“But Anna, he is my brother! And…I felt awfully guilty when I saw him there, but also very happy to find him alive…please, give him a chance, maybe he can change…please please please! And imagine how it would be like to spend Christmas alone in that cold park, freezing to death in that white poncho!”
He made a cute face that Anna couldn’t resist.
“Okay, he can stay here for a while” she gave up. “But you are responsible for him, so be careful”

Hao turned on the other side and pulled the blanket around him to cover himself better. Suddenly he realized he was inside a room. Looking around he spotted a pair of orange headphones and a pickup, disks and posters…Yoh’s room. A slight orange scent floated around, along with an aura of peace and joy…
‘So he brought me here’ Hao thought. ‘And he gave me these warm clothes’
Hao’s thoughts were interrupted by a yell coming from downstairs.
“…HE NEARLY KILLED YOU AND TRIED TO RIDTH THE WORLD OF ALL HUMANS?!”
Anna’s voice, he could recognize it anywhere. So Yoh was in trouble.
But then, he heard Yoh standing up to her. That was a first!
Yoh was defending him.
Hao approached to the room door and opened it careful not to make a sound.
After what he heard, he assumed Yoh had won.
He returned to his bed and waited. Foot steps approached to the door; assuming it was Anna that had come to lecture him and probably slap him, Hao closed his eyes and turned on a side, pretending to sleep, but he was still tensed.
Yoh entered the room and closed the door behind him. Feeling his presence, Hao relaxed and opened his eyes.
“Ah, nii-chan! How are you feeling?”
Hao stared at the ceiling without bothering to answer. What kind of sick game was Yoh playing? Surely he wasn’t that stupid; to bring a declared enemy that already tried to kill him into his own room.
“Hao?” Yoh asked. Hao turned to look at him.
“Yes?”
“I asked how you’re feeling”
“Why would you care?” Hao answered bitterly.
Yoh looked down.
“You are my nii-chan” he spoke softly
“I tried to kill you. I tried to destroy humans. I killed many shamans and terrorized all those who knew me”
Yoh lied down next to Hao and hugged him.
“I couldn’t let you die there, alone and cold. I am happy that you’re alive…I couldn’t forgive myself for killing you…” Yoh said in a low voice “…because I felt like some part of me left me forever. Nii-chan, I missed you”
Hao found himself starring at Yoh in shock and disbelief as Yoh stood up and changed into his pajamas. He searched Yoh’s mind and found out he was telling the truth.
“Look, we haven’t prepared a room for you and now it’s too late, but tomorrow you’ll have your own room. After all, this is your house too” Yoh spoke. “And of course, you’ll spend Christmas with me and my friends. Perhaps mum and dad will join us too”
Hao frowned.
“It won’t be easy in the beginning but you have to give it a try” Yoh pleaded. “But tonight you sleep here. Hao, what are you doing?” Yoh asked amused when he heard Hao’s stomach. “Are you hungry?”
“Yes…”
“I thought so too. I’ve prepared you something at the microwave oven”
“Microwave…?”
“Oh, don’t worry, it won’t hurt you!” Yoh said smiling.
Hao raised a brow.
“It won’t kill you” Yoh said again.
“Fine, I’ll trust you on that one”
Hao still hated human technology. That is, until he tasted Yoh’s ‘specialty’: burgers.
Later that night, Hao watched Yoh sleep close to him, breath regularly and, a happy expression written all over his face. Yoh had to be crazy, or just stupid. Or both. How could he stay so close to Hao but feel safe? And most of all, why did Hao feel safe?
Deciding to find the answer the next day, Hao too surrendered the sleep.
Anna watched from the door and sighed; Yoh had a way to bring up what’s good in people. Maybe she should trust her fiancé and give Hao a chance. After all, she had given Tao Ren one, and later it was proved that she did the right thing.
