General Discussion / Re: Which Manga Art Styles Inspire You?

I don't really read much manga but WLOP is one of my favorite webcomic artists.

WLOP is one of my favorite artists- His art style and the way he draws is so nice. It's incredible the amount of detail in his webcomic.

Just want to clarify that I pay attention in classes like math and do my work, but I'm in 8th grade so not paying attention isn't really a huge deal lmao. Also, we all have school-supplied laptops this year, which is how I'm able to do these things without getting anything confiscated.

General Discussion / Which Manga Art Styles Inspire You?

Which mangas are your biggest inspirations for art (even if your style doesn't resemble theirs?)

I really love Chainsaw Man personally for just how beautiful and iconic the art style is. The more realistic touches compliment the series amazingly. I also admire My Hero Academia thanks to how expressive it is and how well motion is portrayed; Attack on Titan is another. While characters look... kinda messed up... in some panels, the sketchy and loose lines are really pleasing to the eye for some reason. Demon Slayer has a very nice art style too, though a little more cartoony than I'd want (same with My Hero Academia.)

Most the time I just read manga or watch Youtube videos. What about y'all?

Manga Talk / Attack On Titan 139
« on: April 09, 2021, 11:38:07 AM »
The last chapter of Attack on Titan was released, as I'm sure you all know. What are your thoughts on the ending? It's created tons of controversy in some communities, especially AoT subreddits. Personally, it was about what I expected and what I felt was a satisfying end to an amazing series.

General Discussion / Re: Thoughts on the Webtoon vertical format?
« on: April 06, 2021, 12:52:10 PM »

They both have their benefits.  Vertical scrolling can make some interesting panels as you have much more space but I prefer using pages as it's fun to make page turner suspense.  That being said, it is more planning for pages since you have to think about that

@MK Yeah, some of the Webtoon artist make super interesting and appealing long shots. They can be really good for dramatic moments and detailed character illustrations, but I agree- turning the page and seeing something insane you didn't expect is always such a great experience.

Welcome (or welcome back, I guess I should say!) You should post some of your work in the gallery!

General Discussion / Thoughts on the Webtoon vertical format?
« on: April 06, 2021, 11:52:30 AM »
I actually started liking comics through Webtoon titles like Eleceed and Bastard, but after reading page-format manga I really find myself disliking the Webtoon format of vertical scrolling. It's such a good platform for posting comics, so it's a shame it really doesn't accommodate page-based comics very well at all. Some really interesting spreads can be created through the vertical format but action in general I feel flows not as well. Does anyone feel the same or is it just me?

Anime Talk / Re: Which Anime series you are watching ?
« on: April 05, 2021, 01:11:50 PM »
I've been watching Jujutsu Kaisen. I don't watch tons of anime (mainly read manga,) but I've been really enjoying it! Once I finish up with season one I'll switch to the manga and catch up there. The animation has been amazing (such a great job from Mappa makes me excited for what they'll do with Chainsaw Man) and the story has been really interesting too. Megumi, Itadori and Nobara are one of my favorite trios in manga/anime right now.

Hey! I'm CJ and I'm a beginner manga artist. I have a big interest in illustrating shonen-type and action manga in general, however I'm open to other genres as well. I'm hoping to improve my art, find writers to collaborate with, and strengthen my writing during my time on this forum!

Above are a few comic pages! They're just the sketches (not inked or shaded,) but because they're the most recent work I have I'll go with those as an example. I'll have neater work to post later on, but for now I'll leave it at that!
