Welcome Center / Re: hi new to manga! looking for cool people for help

Welcome there Casi!
New to manga huh? So am I!
I suggest you get a flashdrive and fill it with pictures that inspire you or that you find cool. Download pictures from the internet and sort them into files. That way, you can always be inspired. Collect old posters, album covers, fashion, cityscapes, etc. Also dedicate a bookshelf to reference books. If you had already done that, you're off to a good start.

I also suggest that you watch this video:
Do it. Seriously. It will change your life. The video is about how to use color to tell stories and the role in plays in movies, that is if you want your manga to have a cinimatic effect. Of course, most manga is in black and white but color adds so much more to the story in my opinion. Please give it a look.

As for writing manga, just write. Don't care about what's popular or hurting someone's feelings. Set a time to write and write everyday even if you think it's crap. Don't rewrite anything. Try something new until you find something that works.

Daydream constantly. I daydream a lot. Daydreaming lets you be your characters and talk to them. Do it regularly because this will help you create your world. Live in it, and if it seems real to you, then you can write about it.
You can do anything ;)

wow that second one is bursting with details! I love it!
it's definitely good to be inspired by other artists styles as you can really improve the range of work that you produce.
looking forward to more!
Thank you ^^

I drew some wolves! It's been a long time since I've drawn these beautiful creatures, but I drew them and they look good. So, here they are:

First one is a drawing of me (my soul), second one is inspired by the Finnish artist Sanna Annukka.
Wolves are my family and when I see them I feel something that I can't describe. I don't see them as animals. I always saw myself as a dark colored wolf in a concrete jungle, as my fascinations with wolves imprinted on me as a little kid.
To draw wolves, I watch youtube videos and copy their movements. Youtube is a valuable tool as it shows wolf behavior and locomotion. There aren't as many wolves as there used to, so I watch videos of them instead. I study both captive and wild animals.

Wolves are not dogs. They aren't monsters either. They are wild and the things that they do that are friendly can be mistaken for aggression. Please do your research before putting wolves in fiction or getting close to them.

ooohhhh snazzy sculpture!!
Looks really good!
I always want to try it out but I never do :P
Thank you!
Yeah sculpting can be a pain in the ass especially when trying to find time for it. I always reserve a weekend just for sculpting and nothing else. It's fun.

I have finished chapter 1 of my manga. So excited to post it here. Here is the cover for a spoiler:

I will not say what it is about yet, and I can't post any pages yet because some of the image quality is bad and I need to rephotograph the pages. The comic is all traditional art, done in a sketchbook, and mixed media. I have worked my ass off to produce chapter 1 which went on for more than 6 months. Please wait patiently and I will get it done soon. :)

Cool sculpture Hati! I totally get what you mean when discovering a greater skill in sculpture than drawings. I always found that clay was exceptionally easy to work as opposed to a pencil (for instance). Something about how the hands are wired up just makes the tactile response you get from clay click in your brain.
Thank you ^^
That's a pretty normal to be better at sculpting rather than drawing.  YanSculps actually goes over this in his video https://youtu.be/GOOHn83BYCI.  Although you can be good at both, especially if you start with drawing
Thanks for the video. I haven't looked at it yet, but I'm going to.
What weird is that I started with a pencil on animals instead of sculpting them. I think 3d stuff is a lot more interesting than drawing because it's physical, and you can touch it.
Thanks for taking an interest.

Nice wolf! looking pretty good!
I plan to give a try at sculpting in the future, seems a lot of fun.
Thank you!
Yes, sculpting can be hard especially when the clay cracks or gets too dry. I suggest you start with small projects because when I first tried sculpting I wasted so much clay on a big piece. Don't use more than you need because clay dries very quickly.

Ok guys!
I have been inactive because school started and it's very exhausting. I no longer have as much time as I used to to work on my projects. Nowadays, I can only do my comic on the weekends.
Oh well, what can you do? I want to work on art 8-10 hours a day but I can't because it's not my job; it's a dream that will take a lot of work to make real.
So, yeah. Here's what I've been doing when I have time.

I got back into sculpting!
Started with this black wolf. I am not the best sculptor in the world, but I have improved a lot (first sculpture was a cat, but now it's lost).
I am currently making another one of a dog. ;)
Sculpting is really hard because you want to get the anatomy right, otherwise it will look like a 5-year-old made it. I am using air dry clay and cheap acrylics.
After sculpting this, I realized that I have a talent for sculpting animals and not drawing them. Isn't that weird?
I want to sculpt more animals (mainly dogs). Let's see how far I can go :D

That poster looks amazing! I especially like all the little details on the dragon and the shading of the skin tones on the human.
How long do the posters take you to do?

Also, very cool animation OAO My favourite part was the transition from the eye into the creature.

Looking forward to seeing more of your works!
Thank you ^^
Posters usually take me about 2 days to make. This includes color pallete, the message I want to put out, and the design. I plan out my posters before I draw them by doing thumbnail sketches first. I have a helpful book on color theory called "The Designer's Dictionary of Color" and "The Graphic Design Idea Book" to help me.
I'm glad you like my sketchbook

Hello Hati! It's nice to meet you too ^^
I just went onto your posts, and saw your artwork. You have a lovely art style! Great work. Are you working on a manga series too?  ;D

Oh my god thank you! ^^
I'm glad you liked my art. I'm very shy around here, so I mainly communicate with my art.
Yes, I am working on a manga series right now. It's like a fairy tale, but very surreal with a dark twist.
Thanks for taking interest and I'll see you around.

I made a little flip book animation for my comic. :D
I have been experimenting a lot with my art by constantly changing my style and getting inspiration, so instead of a page like I usually do, I made a flip book to illustrate a scene.
This flip book (see link) took 98 frames and two weeks to make. I wasted a lot of ink, and on most frames I just drew freehand with my flashlight on my phone. It was a challenge as the last flip book I made was six years ago, but I had fun. I think my drawings have improved and this is something I'd like to do in the future.
Please enjoy ^^

that's a lovely poster!
you say it's for your neighbourhood, are you going to put it up somewhere ? or make prints/copies?
Thank you!
Right now, I don't have money to make prints so I'm keeping this poster and putting it in my portfolio to apply for art schools. One day, I want to open up a t-shirt and print shop so maybe then I can make profit and copies off of it.

This is the other poster that I made and put up. It lasted three weeks on the bulletin board before someone took it down; probably because they liked it too much. I'm very proud of this one and had a lot of fun making it. I will make another poster to replace this one.
