What's up everyone,
I'm working on a story involving rival gangs battling it out for control of the city. The type of gangs are 80's to present day style gangs not old school mafia type gangs. I grew up around alot of black and mexican gangs so that part of the story is pretty easy to write. I'm writing from experience. But I am not to familiar with white, asian and other types of gangs. Alot of how gangs behave is influenced by their culture so I was wondering if anyone that might have grown up around this type of environment or is just well versed on the subject can help me out and give me some information so that the sTory is as accurate as possible. I'm having trouble coming up with gang names and gang member names as well as the way their gangs are structured and their slang. Even if the information you know is 2nd hand information it could be really useful. If you have any name ideas or stories can you please post them here so that I can get some more inspiration. I'm constantly watching documentaries but there is only so much information I can gain from them. Theres nothing like 1st or even 2nd hand experiences.

Because I'm sure everyone in here has a passion for anime and manga I think its safe to assume that there are a few of us out there that create some sort of content for the community. Whether it be YouTube or a podcast I think it would be a cool idea for us to interact with eachother and help eachother grow our community.

Manga Artists Wanted / Mother Earth (working title)

Hello, I'm looking for an artist to partner with in order to make a story of mine come to life. I have about 4 stories that are mostly complete but are to large so I decided to create a much shorter story so that I could have a finished story under my belt and hopefully make a profit off of. It is a shounen adventure type story that will be kid friendly. I specify that because most of my stories aren't. I plan on completing the writing of this story in the next few months and want to work with an artist now so that we can work on the character concepts an start preparing. I am VERY open to letting the artist have creative freedom when designing characters and will simply put my input unless I have a very specific idea in mind.I am very passionate about my projects and will be using instagram as a marketing platform eventually planning on moving to Facebook, YouTube and twitter once I gain a decent following. I'm currently learning to draw and am willing to help with the storyboarding. I also have a friend that has a decent sized anime following from his clothing line that said he is willing to share my work with his followers to help me grow when I'm ready to do so and have enough content. If you are interested please PM me and I will give you the general idea for my story as well as my marketing plan. If you could also attach examples of your art style I would greatly appreciate it. Working together for the full duration of the duration of the project is a must. I want someone that we can be invested in this together and we will grow together as friends.

Extremely vague summary of story
Villain goes to a temple where the earths magic is accessible and attempts to steal the earths magic for himself and ends up releasing it. Many people including the heroes are given the magic of the earth the guardian of the magic finds 2 heroes to travel the earth to help him collect the magic and restore it back to the earth before the earth dies.
There's much more to it but that is the basic idea.
I look forward to hearing from y'all soon.

Like the others said, a writer really needs to know where you're going or at least where you want to end up. I personally don't like taking to much control of someone else's story unless that is what they want because I am very passionate about my stories and their direction. If you can tell us the end game you have planned then maybe we can help a little better. As of right now the amount of directions we could go with this very vague idea are just to broad for us to truly help you progress your story

I can't really call myself a writer but I'm working on becoming one.
I currently have about 3 stories that I was working on and I halted 2 to focus on my most recent story but I realized that I add so much to the world characters, story, and everything that it is becoming a very lengthy story.
I have decided to put that story on hold so that I can practice short stories but anything I create I seem to never stop adding characters and story elements and because of that I want to work on someone else's idea!
I am offering to help write YOUR story. Anything you like. If you have a very vague idea for a story and aren't good at developing it into something more then I'm willing to help. You will have full editorial control over what goes into your story so if your like an idea or don't like the direction I am going with a character I will change it to meet your needs. I really enjoy writing and I'm just trying to get some experience with actually completing a short story.
Please no extremely lengthy stories. I have my own that I have not even completed. ( I can maybe do a story arc for your large story but nothing longer than that.)
My preference is shounen type action stories but I can do other stories. I tend to lean towards darker stories with serious tones but I am also good at more family friendly stories. My stories seem to have a balance of both.
ANY art level is ok. I am by no means a professional and I don't expect to work with a professional artist. This is your project I'm working on so I'll accept anyone. (I will be honest if for some reason I don't think I can do your story. Don't think I'm comfortable with hentai or anything like that.)

General Discussion / Do you make categories when brainstorming??

Hey everyone, I haven't been on lately because I have been working 2 full time jobs, going to school full time and just recently started my own business but I have a little spare time so I wanted to start a thread.
When I create my story I make a bunch of categories and then elaborate on them little by little while inspiration hits me.
I wanted to know if anyone else brainstorms this way and if so what categories so you feel are absolutely necessary to creating a good story.
I'll add a few
Characters: this is where I go into detail about each character with their back story, abilities, personality, appearance etc. (obviously)
Rules of the world: this is where I establish rules to the world that I make a serious attempt not to break unless there is an exception in the story. From the government, Setting, and any magical or other kind of rules I want to place.
Geography: here I literally describe the physical layout of the world. Rivers, oceans, continents, islands, etc. (y'all get the idea)
Abilities: I make a list of abilitiesor my characters to have and when inspiration hits I elaborate on the characters story and more specific details.
Name ideas: I make a list of names that I make up or names that I like and think will go well with the story.
Science of the world: normally I do this if the world is in a futuristic setting to where the technology needs to be explained or if the world relies heavily on magic or abilities. I like for my readers to fully understand how everything works.
Organizations: I use this to describe criminal organizations, teams etc.
If anyone has any other type of categories that they use I would like to know so that maybe I can get some inspiration.
