Why don't we see Aliens?

There are billions of stars in the universe, and many of these contain planets that could harbor life. Plenty of these are billions of years older than the solar system. Why then is there no evidence of intelligent life outside of earth?

This is known as the Fermi paradox and is based around the idea that, given the exponential rate of technology growth, it would take only a few tens of millions of years for an advanced civilization to colonize the entire Milky Way. So where are they? Are we really alone in the universe?

These are some of the reasons people have proposed to explain why we see no evidence of intelligent life outside of earth.

They destroy themselves.

According to this scenario, civilizations that develop advanced technology tend to self-destruct themselves more often than not.  Causes of extinction include irreversible environmental pollution, artificial viruses, and weapons of mass destruction. While this paints a gloomy prospect for the future of humanity, it doesn’t seem extremely improbable given how close we were to an all-out nuclear war during the cold war.

They are observing us.

It could be that the earth is part of a tightly regulated portion of the Galaxy and there are specific rules against interfering with the development of primitive planets. It could be that they are waiting for us to reach a certain level of technological advance. Or it could refer to some sort of political and/or cultural advance.

There is a super predator destroying competition.

It could be that there is a super-predator kind of aliens that maintain dominion over the universe by destroying all other possible competitors. If a species advances to the point where it may become a future threat, their response it to eliminate them in some kind of preemptive strike.

We are using the wrong technology for communication.

It could be that we are using the wrong kind of technology to communicate. According to this hypothesis, radio waves are far too primitive and alien civilizations invariably outgrow radio through technological advancement. Some scientists have hypothesized that advanced civilizations may send neutrino signals. Regular detector would not be able to receive these signals.

They are here unacknowledged.

An explanation loved by conspiracy theory fans. Aliens are already here. The keep their presense hidden. They observe and/or manipulate earth events according to some unknown agenda.

Great stuff man! Faces is something I really need to work on.

Oh man, lucid dreaming. I love when it happens! Is probably one of the coolest experiences one can have I think. I actually have them relatively frequent. I read there was a like a machine that could help induce them, something like  a helmet that sends light to your brain. I have also notices I have some very vivid dreams when I fall asleep with the light on. It is quite extraordinary what the human brain can do (create an entire scenario in our head while you sleep). Makes you wonder if it is actually your brain that does it, or there is more behind it  ;)

Ever wondered if we are living in a matrix style kind of simulation? There are good reasons to think this could be the case. For instance, despite all the advance that has been made in modern physics, we still don’t have a model of physics that completely explains the universe and is consistent with all the data. Our models can’t explain why Galaxies spin they way they do or why the universe is expanding. Scientist have proposed undetectable forms of matter and energy known as Dark energy and Dark matter to explain why these models don’t work, but so far this is little more than speculation.

Please read my full post: Is the Universe a simulation?

I just started a blog! Check it out! http://www.theredtiedevil.com/

Thank you! Yeah, I'm still figuring out shading. Making the borders darker seems like could make it look better, I will try it out. Thank for the advice!
