Develop Your Story / What do you guys think of this idea?
« on: May 13, 2014, 12:59:05 AM »
Just an idea I had that I'm going to be working on with a buddy - I want your guys's opinions.

The Initial Information For You, Not for the reader (essentially the bible fall):
"At the beginning, there was simply God, and his followers the angels. Heaven lived in peace for many many years, until some of the angels began to question God's authority. Questioning his power and decisions. Some of them rebelled, being cast out of heaven. God made them leave, casting them out of heaven. The angels who did not choose sides were also cast out, their neutrality put aside. Heaven and Hell have formed. God then spoke with the Demon King many years later and they got in a bet. If a race was formed, where knowledge about both angels and demons were given to them, and no interference was allowed from either side (heaven or hell) which side would people of free choice choose? Both bet for the success of their sides; and the human race was born. The angels who were indifferent, and did not choose a side now resided in their own realm, and are known as 'Reapers'. Their job is to monitor the logistics of the human race - more specifically when people die. The Reaping King and his officers assign a death to each child when they are born. The soldiers are trained to be able to execute those who somehow escape the death they were assigned."

Now The Story Begins (again just information for you, for your thoughts! Not an official script):
Our story follows the protagonist Daniel Esdras (means help). One day, Daniel is walking with his parents from the super market, he watches as they get hit by a car right in front of him. Just as he begins to scream and run towards their dead bodies and hold them in his hands, he snaps out of his daze, only to find himself on the street with his parents at his side once again. They are walking a bit ahead of him, straight towards the intersection where his parents just died. He yells after them and stops them from walking forward with some sort of distraction, and gets them to take an alternate route home. Later in the evening, Daniel lies in bead, shaken up by the events he has trouble falling asleep. He hears a faint swooshing sound from inside his house. He gets out of bed and walks towards his parents room to see what is going on. Daniel opens the door and finds that both his parents are dead, with slashes across their chests, blood everywhere staining the walls and the bed; their bodies scattered aside. Standing in the open window is a man with long black hair and a massive scythe on his back, in a white cloak with black accents. He pulls back his hood and shows his face, which is painted with a smile. He warns the boy not to interfere with the course of things ever again. Or else, he will be the one to die next time. Daniel runs at the man, who simply fades into the air before he can reach the window. Daniel lies cursing after the dark haired man.

In the reaper world, a young man who is simply assigned the number "974" for a name is about to go on his first mission in the human world outside of his training academy. He goes with his teacher who is referred to as 36. (In this chapter, you get an inside look of the reaper realm, as well as how travel between the worlds works) They journey to the human world, and 974 has to kill his first human who escaped death. It is explained that humans have to follow their exact death times in order to play their parts in the larger picture of things, and also to keep the population at a perfect number. The boy thinks this is ridiculous and unfair to just be killing people off. He cannot follow through and kill the sleeping woman. His teacher goes to finish the job, but the boy stabs him with his scythe before he can finish, killing him. The boy escapes into the night.

The story would follow Daniel, and his problems with watching people die and not being able to help, and eventually helping. He then is taught how to tap into the same powers that allow him to see the deaths before they occur. The spiritual energy he has absorbed from passing angels and demons. (Or so it is thought initially no spoiling later plot points) He is taught how to wield a weapon along with a few others, and fights back against the reapers. He also meets up with 974, who is hiding out from the reapers. About midway through their fight against the reaper society, *censored* gets real.

The ancient truce between demons and angels is over. Demons begin to appear, flooding the earth.
The story would then follow the group fighting demons, and angels and everything along those lines.

That is the supppppppppppppper rough outline, and a little long for just an idea. And I only have the first 2 chapters set with what I want.

This is not a script or anything even close, just an idea. I wanted your guys's thoughts, and opinions, and advice!!!

Develop Your Story / Prologue Help
« on: May 12, 2014, 03:38:06 PM »
Hey guys - I read a post by........not sure lol, but a senpai on here and it was very helpful for writing my prologue. I now know that chapter one should not be continuing off of it.

My important question here, is how to write one without it sounding corny.

I think we all have seen at the beginning of movies where it literally hands you the premise in like two sentences, before the opening scene. "Year: 2079 after the major meteor crashed down on earth. *fades dramatically into Brad Pitt*"

The story I am working on, is set on earth. The premise I want the reader to know is:
"A new chemical was discovered off the coast of South America. It could fuel anything, and only small quantities were needed to produce a lot of energy. The world quickly began switching to this cheap, abundant chemical alternative to previously used wind, solar, and gas energies. The entire world had adopted this new form of energy after about 20 years. Everything seemed to be going great, the new energy source even had no repercussions on the environment! That's when it all changed, a large reactor filled of the chemical com busted, causing a huge explosion. The chemical released in an unstable state, instantly polluted our atmosphere, blocking the sun from penetrating the now thick black sky. The chemical spilled into the ocean as well - killing the wildlife, and spreading to all the waterways slowly over time. The lack of sun caused the foliage to die."

Then my story begins, many decades after the major incident. How can I say the above without just sounding super cliche?

Anime Talk / Berserk
« on: May 12, 2014, 03:25:31 PM »
Does anyone read berserk?? I think it is an amazing story (granted a little horrifying at times) and the character development is truly great. It's also amazing to me seeing a perfectly normal human being able to fight the supernatural.

Has anyone read the series? Or watched the anime? (The anime only covers like the first few chapters, before the story really gets going)

« on: May 12, 2014, 03:23:52 PM »
Why haven't I seen, read, or heard about this earlier?!?! It's really good. A bit rushed, but I am still enjoying it.

General Manga writer discussions / Character Names
« on: May 11, 2014, 06:11:56 PM »
How do you guys go about thinking of creative names for your characters?
As I'm mapping out my story, and the universe/characters become massive I am finding it increasingly difficult to think of unique names that actually stick with the reader.

General Discussion / As someone wanting to learn how to draw......
« on: May 11, 2014, 06:09:57 PM »
Where would be the best place to start? My art skills are well, laughable, but I hope to improve that.
I usually just write, but I really want to be able to draw not only just to draw, but to better communicate with artists.

Where is the best place for a noob to start? Did any of you start from not being able to draw very well, and improved significantly? If so, where did you learn?

Thanks again :D

Develop Your Story / Question!!!
« on: May 10, 2014, 11:27:02 PM »
Hey all - How can I incorporate believable, supernatural elements into a rather human centered manga?

My story is set in a human world, no magic or anything like that. But there are super soldiers, or mutants that are created that have very special powers. Such as the ability to manipulate their bones, or even move rocks at will.
How can i show that these people were created in a labratory by scientists, but do it believeably?

My initial plan was to say they used a special chemical that gives them certain powers, but is that enough to be believable?
Should I not focus too much into it?

Hello there! My name is Tyler, I am a writer, and i am looking for an artist to make a manga with! My art skills are worse than laughable, so thats why I am looking for an artist and a partner!

But I'm not just looking for someone to do what I say, and draw whatever I say. I am looking for someone who wants to make this project their own as well! We will make these stories together as a team.

I am pretty serious about this, and would love to get some work done on it, and maybe even try to get published!

This summary is my main story; more details can be given if you are interested :D Nothing is set in stone, it can all be changed. Like I said, we are a team :D

First Idea:  (Fantasy/Shounen) A country was trapped in a world war, and the casualties had become very immense. The leader of the country began a project, to create super soldiers. Capable of withstanding bullets, and having immense strength and in some cases, special mutant powers thanks to a certain chemical that was uncovered. Super soldiers were used, and the tides of war began to turn. The other countries caught wind that the government was about to create some "Ultima". Soldiers paramount in one specific type of warfare. The types being: ranged, melee, aerial, stealth, and demolition. The other countries involved in the war agreed to surrender on one condition - all the mutant super soldiers were to be killed.
Flash forward to present time, where our story begins. It follows Aiden, a super soldier who is living in hiding with fellow super soldiers. The streets are constantly patrolled by soldiers with orders to kill the mutants on sight. Aiden and his fellow mutants live in a secluded home, and get given food by accepting black market deals from people who need them to complete certain jobs or missions. Things become more complicated as the police find out about the black market deals, and then even more complicated after that, but I cannot say much more without spoiling the entire, lengthy story.

Anyway, If you are an artist and are looking for a writer to work with seriously and have complete creative freedom, let me know! I would love too meet you and speak with you. So pm me on here! :) I would also love to write storyboards for your story ideas as well! I am looking for friends and artists that want to work together so we can compliment each other well!

Bleach Manga / Where Bleach should have ended?
« on: May 10, 2014, 10:54:33 PM »
I loved bleach for a very very long time - But after the final Aizen battle when Ichigo used his final Getsuga Tensho, I thought that's where it should have ended.
I understand Kubo wanting to keep going, but at least for me, the fullbringers and the current shinigami vs quincy arc really isn't doing it for me.

I know the manga will end after this, but am I the only one who feels this way? Did you guys enjoy the fullbringers and the current war arc? I just feel like even kubo is running out of ideas.

The latest power ups - like with zabimaru's fake name, it's all seeming forced to me.

Do you guys feel the same?

General Manga writer discussions / Realistic or fantasy?
« on: May 10, 2014, 10:34:02 PM »
In the current manga world, which is more popular, and also which do you guys prefer?

I have two ideas, one that deals heavily with fantasy, and the other being for the most part, very realistic and relate-able. When you all are reading a manga, do you prefer something like Fairy Tail, or Naruto where it is an alternate world to our own, where powers are the normal? Or do you enjoy something more realistic, centered around characters that are limited to the same human limitations as us?

Thanks for feedback :D

break Room / Finals Week
« on: May 10, 2014, 10:27:34 PM »
Is anyone else on here going through the fun *sarcasm dripping off my fingers* time known as finals?
High school or College? :D
I finished a few, and have my business calc exam tomorrow. -_- And yet here I am exploring MR lol

Welcome Center / HEY! I'm Ty. Can't wait to meet you guys :D
« on: May 10, 2014, 09:25:22 PM »
Hey guys! I'm really excited to meet and talk to you all and get to know you. But first, some stuff about myself! Thanks to the senpai on this site i know what areas about myself to delve into to introduce myself efficiently :D
To start, my name is Tyler. I am a guy/man/boy whatever you wanna call me. I found this forum from my friend who read one of my stories and wanted to make a manga with me but couldn't draw for me because of time constraints. She uses the site, and said I would not only enjoy the community, but could maybe find a partner to make a manga with me!
As I just mentioned, I am a write and also a huge anime/manga fan >.< I am 19 years old, from the United States.
Oh man. favorite manga and anime......GAHHHHHH I cannot choose. Naruto is probably my favorite, because it was the one that got me started! And I just love it more and more as the story progresses.
My other interests - include sports and music and well, involuntary studying -____- College is a burden.
In this forum, I haven't started yet, but I plan to be posting my own stories, and begin my epic journey to find an artist to work with :D I also wanna be involved in discussions about different mangas and animes.

That's just a little about me, I cannot wait to get to know some of you guys!
