Video / PC Games / E3 2019
« on: June 15, 2019, 02:25:42 PM »
With E3 done for another year and the dust settling on new announcements, I wanted to ask my fine, beautiful fellow raiders what they thought of this year? What games are you looking forward to? What looked like utter trash? How did Todd come out and talk about Fallout 76 like a sucess? Discuss.

Events And Exhibitions / Tales From The Convention Hall....
« on: February 10, 2019, 01:47:18 AM »
Not sure if this is the right place to post this but  :noidea:.

I thought it'd be fun to have a place to share stories about conventions you've attended in the years gone by. Met a unique individual? Seen some breath taking cosplays/Merchandise? Any outrageous (for Gelmra) panels you've seen? Let us know!

I guess I'll start us off with a quick one. The first time I met up with some raiders (No1sey and MisterSherbetLemon) we attended LAGC 2016. It was amazing to meet some guys off here. Seriously, if you have chance and have gotten to know them of course, I would advice you to do so!
The cool thing about this con was the fact it was based in a Student University, which meant the main stage was actually a bar area. They had a pretty sweet gaming set up with Smash Bro's Melee on Gamecube and we spent a good little while just hammering games while having a few beers, it was good fun to let other random people jump on too. I just want to say, that this was also where my hatred for Ness stems from, but I'm totally not bitter or anything.
The most important thing LAGC taught me that an anime convention becomes infinitely more bearable when you can drink.

General Manga writer discussions / Shonen Tournament Arcs
« on: May 28, 2018, 06:37:38 AM »
We all love a good shonen battle tournament arc...I think? What I want to know is what you think make a good tournament and what advice you have for writing one?

Manga Writer workshop / Same Scene, Different Story
« on: May 02, 2017, 08:43:54 AM »
I thought it'd be fun to do a few writing prompts to keep ourselves from getting rusty (or to pretend we're not procrastinating). Basically, I'll give you a basic premise for a scene, then you just need to write your interpretation of it. Get creative and have fun with it. What I'd like to see is just how different someone else will write compared to others and what common themes we may see. Doesn't need to be a long piece, just go with what you thinks best.

So the only rules I can think of is that you can't change anything from the outline. But anything that's omitted you're free to play with! :D Feel free to submit your own prompts, but I'll get us started with a super simple one.......

SCENE: "A man is spotted while riding the train and pursued"

Video / PC Games / Persona 5 Talk
« on: April 25, 2017, 04:19:12 PM »
Because why not!?...................

Lets chat about P5 and answer the important question, like...Who's your waifu? What name did you pick for your team? and so on. I will say if you're going to post plot spoilers, use the spoiler tags, that'll make everyone happy ;)

General Manga writer discussions / Ask A Writer
« on: April 19, 2017, 08:16:02 PM »
Well since we have an "Ask An Artist" thread, it only makes sense to create a writing version! Same rules again. Post a question to the Writers on the forum and wait for those sweet, sweet replies.

To start us off...... What do you believe is a specific aspect of writing you excel at? Is it your plotting? Proofreading? Dialogue? Action sequences? WHAT THE HELL IS IT? TELL ME!!!?

MR Pub / Anime the "News" - A Forum Game
« on: March 29, 2017, 05:44:42 PM »
It's a simple game. Post a news story and then ask...What if this was an Anime?

To start, here's this.....

Shaq thinks the world is flat and satelite imagery is fake...

General Discussion / Ask an Artist
« on: February 26, 2017, 08:37:42 PM »
Okay so I thought it'd be cool to set up a thread where beginner artists or writers can ask art related queries and hopefully have them answered by any artists on the forum.

So to get the ball rolling...When doing a first draft for a manga. Do you generally write it in Prose then translate it into a storyboard? Write a script then storyboard? Or something else entirely?

Naruto Anime / Best Battles In Naruto
« on: February 26, 2017, 08:33:41 PM »
Okay guys, so we're going to be doing a video soon and would love for any Naruto fan's/those familiar with the series to get involved.

It's very simple...What do you think the best battles in Naruto were and why?

break Room / A Look Back at 2016 on MR!
« on: December 09, 2016, 08:13:05 AM »
So, 2016 was a bit of a crazy old year, but we don't want to remember it for all the doom and gloom! So here's what this post's for. I'd like anyone who's willing to post something that they enjoyed in 2016 on the forum, or in real life. Let's reflect on the good times ;)

I guess I'll start us off;

-Getting to meet No1sey and Sherbet in London. Was a hell of a good time and can't wait till the next time we do it. More Raider meetups need to happen!

-Age of corruption. Was fun once again, there's nothing quite like a massive collaboration to get the writing juices flowing.

-The happy hours, just where to start!? Getting to speak with you guys is awesome! Seeing the Tea Room take shape is a plus too and I'm sure with Churro, Echo and Robin at the helm it'll go from strength to strength.

-Writers anthology. Awesome to see it in its finished form (we actually did something!) and props to Lego for all the effort he put into it. Now we just need an artists one....;)

-Nomena's videos for the YT channel. Great to see someone adding content to the channel (something I promised to do myself! ).

Members Workshops / Christmas Card Design Contest!
« on: November 28, 2016, 03:03:56 AM »

Well he is soon anyhow. Which means its that time of the year for Christmas cards and since we're all about showcasing our skills and working to improve them, we figured we'd hold a Christmas Card Design contest!

We want to spread the festive feeling so we're asking you to design a Christmas card to share with us all. It doesn't have to be Manga Raiders themed or anything like that, we just need it to be festive themed, so be as creative as you like! If you wanna make a physical card and upload pics then go for it. If you prefer to do it digitally, then that's cool too.

1.) Competition is open to all. Just need to post your entry on this thread. Competition is open from now until the 18th December.
2.) The contest will be decided on the MOST CREATIVE entry, so Art quality isn't the sole factor. So if you're worried you're not the best artist, dont worry!
3.) Winner will be announced on this thread and the 21st December edition of the Happy Hour. I'll then get in touch with you to get an email address to send the prize to.

PRIZE: $50 Amazon voucher!!! :D

Manga Writer workshop / Creepypasta Halloween Thread
« on: October 21, 2016, 09:17:01 AM »
Its that time guys, its the most spookiest time of the year! So to celebrate lets all write a horror story or two ;) If you don't know what Creepypasta is, its simply an internet horror story, like Jeff the Killer, Slenderman etc. If you're like me and never written horror before then it could be good practice and get us in the mood for halloween! :D

Manga Writer workshop / Happy Hour Halloween Writing Contest 2016
« on: October 05, 2016, 04:06:45 PM »

Its that time again.....its the Second annual Happy Hour Halloween Writing Contest!!!

All Raiders are welcome to participate. All you need to do is submit a manga raiders themed Halloween short story. Your story needs to be between 500-1000 words and be a self contained tale (Not part of a larger work). It needs to follow standard forum rules, even being Halloween/horror themed try to keep it relatively PG-13. Submissions will be accepted from the 5th October to the 26th October, so you've got 3 weeks. After the Entry window closes the winner will be announced on the following Happy Hour show after the 26th. Judging will be members of the happy hour ;)
THE PRIZE: The winner will receive a £50 Amazon Voucher :D

HOW TO ENTER: If you wish to enter, simply complete your story and PM it to me between the 5th and 26th. Obviously judges will be exempt from the running, but can still submit a story for fun if they wish. After the competition closes and the winner has been chosen, all stories will be posted onto this thread, in time for  Halloween! It will be helpful to post on this topic if you wish to take part too. That way I know who's entering and can chase up any entries if necessary.

Manga Writer workshop / Writer's Tournament!
« on: September 26, 2016, 03:27:09 PM »
Okay I've had an idea, it may work, or it may not. So rather than blathering on, let me just say what my idea is:

-A group of writers will be gathered for an elimination style tournament to see who is the KING OF WRITERS amongst us. (Not really but it could be fun).
-So here's how it would work: say 8 of us signed up. You'd be randomly paired up into a bracket. When it is your turn to  compete, you and your opponent will be given a scenario/story idea. It will encompass all genres and will be randomly assigned. If we wanted we could go further, assigning perspective, style, word limit etc.
-You then get a few days to a week to hand in your piece. It will be posted here anonymously and people will vote for which one they prefer. Whoever the winner is advances to the next round.
-In the grand final we'll have an epic showdown and winner may even receive a prize!!! :o :o :o

So let me know if you're interested. If enough people are up for it, then we'll go for it ;)
