MR Pub / KagePen
« on: January 15, 2018, 10:43:35 PM »
Hi guys

NET have some unfortunate news for you. Kage or as his full username KagePen has passed away. I can not divulge any details as we ourselves only know parts of it all. We were informed by former MR member Maihime that Kage’s brother posted about his passing on Facebook. We were shocked and at first thought of it as a sick prank but were later told the sad truth. Kage was a dear friend to us here at NET, someone we have been close to for 5 years so it took a little time for us to be able to post this however we know that Kage had friends on this site and we wanted to inform those people as well. Though it’s a tough time we will strive to grow and achieve what we set out to achieve when forming our small MR branch family in his memory. Kage we will never forget you, thank you for pushing us forward... see you later rival.

Thank you everyone

Manga Writer workshop / Characterisation
« on: September 16, 2017, 04:11:35 PM »
So one of my biggest weaknesses in my series' is that my characters don't have personality. Not sure if anyone else has the same problem but I find it difficult to really make a character unique personality wise. How do you guys work through this? Is there a load of questions you go through for different situations to see how your character would react? Or is it something completely different?

Develop Your Story / Emperor's War Zone (EWZ)
« on: September 15, 2017, 11:43:19 PM »
EWZ is about a wrestler by the name of Yuzuru. He is a rookie who aims for the top prize in the biggest company in Japan EWZ. He is joined by fellow rookies Sakurai and Hana, his childhood friends who share similar goals. Throughout the story there will be many colourful characters ranging from a freelancer to the greatest wrestler in the world). There are many different types of matches and styles such as Japanese strong style, Lucha Libre, British Technical style as well as many references to legends of the industry such as: Antonio Inoki, Mitsuhara Misawa, Kenta Kobashi, Los Guerreros (Eddie in particular) and many more. Follow me into the light, the crowds, the soaring highs, the darkest lows... and through the twisted past that made Yuzuru who he is

I have around 30 characters planned out with personalities, movesets, connections and their role in EWZ. I shall upload these with their moveset, weight class as well as other information on the company in due time

As you can probably tell I'm a huge fan of wrestling (in 1% I had references to Finn Balor's Demon King persona, Seth Rollins' Kingslayer gimmick as well as naming Keith O'Reilly after ReDragon's Kyle O'Reilly) so I'm hoping that my passion and knowledge will transfer through to make a top notch read and one hell of a thrill ride

Japanese Language / Learning Japanese... in Japan :O
« on: September 11, 2017, 07:45:52 PM »
There are schools in Japan that take on people who want to learn the language by living it. Most of them are pretty pricey but some do offer shorter terms that cost less.

Has anyone gone to one of these?

Or are any of y'all interested in going to one in the future?

Develop Your Story / 1%
« on: September 07, 2017, 10:41:45 PM »
Hi guys  :sheep:

I have uploaded 1% to MR on the topic for me v Chaos (I'll link it, the first three chapters are on there so rather than pissing off anyone by making 4 posts on here Ill just make the one), so far I'm behind in votes so I want to see where I've gone wrong and hopefully make the first chapters stronger. If you have any advice I would really appreciate the help, be as critical as you can. Also it'd be nice if you could take a look at Chaos' work on that post and vote which is better but you don't have to

Also wanna know what people think about the structure of the chapters as its the first series I've made in novel format rather than script. Anyone who has seen my previous works, you reckon sticking to script would be better or was the novel format good?

I will be making more chapters that I'll post on here but I want to make sure the first three are as solid as they can be. Thanks y'all

Enjoy and lemme know what I can improve on  ->,18573.msg287275.html#msg287275

Edit: Seemingly the Chaos V Hikari topic didn't help in improving 1% so hopefully here'll do. It'll also keep all the advice in one place. Chapter four will be uploaded at some point but expect EWZ first

Cafe Nippon / "Cool Japan" Residency
« on: September 06, 2017, 10:57:59 PM »
So apparently Japan has started this new thing called "Cool Japan". The Immigration Bureau of Japan announced that an upcoming overhaul of its regulations will make it possible for foreigners working in anime-related fields to obtain permanent residency rights in Japan after just one year. They have a point system in place and if you score 70 points, you will need to live in Japan for three years and keep getting 70 throughout those years. If you somehow manage to get 80... you only have to do one year! Great right?

Wrong. Getting 70 points is going to be next to impossible, never mind 80. One of the criteria is income, meaning that you’ll need to display some sort of proven earning power for your line of otaku-related business, and with an annual income of 25 million yen (US$225,000) only netting you 40 points, even that enviable salary won’t be enough to get you permanent residency all on its own. Other criteria includes education, special skills and other stuff that most people looking to get into anime and manga just don't have. It seems they have applied this without learning about the industry beforehand.

Hopefully they can try to change this slightly. People lookin to live in JP, whaddya think?

Just a friendly match up. As stated above the submissions will happen in 7 days. The poll will end 2 weeks after the chapters are posted. Obviously we ask that you don't vote before the chapters are posted but I doubt anyone will. May the better writer win

Manga Artists Wanted / Medibang Manga Contest
« on: October 16, 2016, 10:05:53 PM »
Ok, been away for a little bit but Im back for a somewhat good reason. Medibang have teamed up with Shounen Jump again this year for an international manga contest (Ill link below). Usually Id go to Tetsu (I used to team with) but the guys at NET havent heard from him in about 2 years... nor have I. Back to square one I guess, so Im here to ask for help from an artist. I have about 3 one shots that I think could work so Ill post a basic outline of the three later. Not sure I can offer anything as there isnt a cash prize for the winner but I will consider paying (Im not used to it so I cant put up a good price Im offering, suggestions would be nice). If you are somehow interested after reading this monstrosity then please either post here or message me. Of course if you arent interested then go on with your day but can you really refuse the sheep? ->  :sheep:

Thanks guys

just a quick one shot that I want to upload to see how far I've come since being away from here XD

I'll make sure to upload it soon (topic name is 1% because its the title of the one shot).

This was to be uploaded to the Media Bang competition but I didn't get word from my artist so I pulled away quickly.

I should get to upload it some time this month but it depends (I got work from 9-5 so... yeah)

General Manga writer discussions / Characters
« on: October 20, 2014, 11:32:49 PM »
This is a problem I have been having recently. Yes, I could have asked the person who told me about this but I thought making this topic would not only give me more opinions from those in similar situations but it could also help people in the future.

Basically the question is, how do you choose the personality for your characters? You need to choose a character who has flaws but because of them, the character is the perfect fit for the story. Im finding it hard to really choose a personality for my main because I dont know what personality fits my main perfectly

Manga Talk / Shonen Jump's next big hitter
« on: September 14, 2014, 09:25:27 AM »
A lot of great Jump series are ending: Kuroko No Basket, Naruto, Claymore, ect. And that means its time for some of the smaller series to become the flagstone's for Jump. So which series' do you think will be capable of taking on such a challenge?

Personally I think that Ansatsu Kyou*censored*su (Assassination Classroom) will be one of the series that will be able to take one of those places, as well as Haikyuu
