Manga Writers wanted / I Will Draw Your Characters!
« on: July 29, 2016, 02:53:10 PM »
I had a similar topic a while back, but then I went on a long hiatus and when I came back, it was understandably locked and full of unanswered requests. Sorry about that.
The old topic is extremely messy, the requests are old, and my drawings are no longer displaying for some reason, so I felt like starting a new one.
Note: I have some free time and I will be taking requests for a short period of time, most likely a week or so. If I find myself enjoying this, then it'll probably go on a bit longer :D
I'll need description in the following order, more or less:

Hair style:

You can add other details if you wish, like poses or specific markings on the body.

UPDATE: To avoid any disappointments, I won't be taking any more requests. Once I catch up, I'll hopefully be able to accept more.

Tips and Tutorials / Tutorial - How I color manga in Photoshop :D
« on: September 29, 2015, 07:48:34 AM »
This is the process I go through when coloring my manga. Hopefully it can prove somewhat helpful.
(Note that I do this using a mouse, not a tablet)

1- I scan my inked drawing and do some minor adjustments in Photoshop, like erasing some remaining pencil marks or some ink mistakes.

2- By selecting a new layer and changing it to ''Multiply'' instead of ''Normal'', All the colors will be under the black lines. This means that the color Black will not be affected by any other color, making it a lot easier to select the desired area that I want to color. I do that using the Polygonal Lasso tool. Then I start coloring and adding different shades where I see fit. Here, the woman in the front (called Flame), is supposed to be shooting fire out of her hand. This is something I'll add later on. But for now, I have to keep in mind the major source of light (fire). The shading doesn't need to be perfectly in sync with the source of light, but keeping it close is better.
Notice that throughout the process, every time I'm done doing something major like adding shading or mixing colors, I Duplicate the layer, making 2 copies of it, and I hide one of them. Let's say 20 minutes into coloring, you find that you don't like the result. Photoshop doesn't allow many undo's, so by doing the duplicating process, you save yourself the trouble of deleting the layer and starting all over, instead going back to the other copy of it

3- Notice that before, the shading was rough. This is because in the following step, I will mix those different colors using the Mixer Brush Tool. You find it by right-clicking on the Brush Tool and selecting it.

4- Using the same Mixer Brush Tool, I can add details with different shades. I also add the white highlights with the same brush tool.

5- Now I add the Orange highlights that should come from the fire in her hand.

6- Before, all of it was on ONE layer, which I kept duplicating as a back up plan. I continue with the same process to color her shirt and hair (each on separate layers). You'll notice there's fire added here. It was only a test to see if it works with the adjacent highlights. I'll later on delete it and re-do it in a better way. Adding it is very simple. Google ''Fire PSD'' and you'll find hundreds of PS files with fire and a blank background. You copy and paste them onto your file and you place them around, changing their size, rotation and warping them to give a better feel. You do the adjustments and warping by going to ''Edit'' on the top left and going down to ''Transform'' and selecting the desired command.

7- Same process with the girl on top (her name is Chills)

8- Chills has Ice powers. Here's what I did to paint them: First I selected and colored the area where the Ice power is supposed to be. I colored it with a base of dark aqua blue.

Then I used the Brush tool to make the ice cracks. It's really easy, I selected a Tree brush and colored around with white on a new layer. The branches of the tree resemble cracks in ice, simple as that. Then on a new layer, I inserted some steam effects (downloaded them just like the fire ones) and added them on top of the ice on her arm, as you can see above and below

9- I continue with the same process to color the guy on top (Kaida). Once I'm done, I save the image with the highest possible quality and then re-insert it in Photoshop. I used Filters (on the top) and added lens flares and finally used a filter called Paint Daubs. It decreases the intensity and thickness of the black lines, making the color shine more. Then I added a logo for the manga:

Hopefully some of you found it helpful.

break Room / Post your anime figure collection!
« on: August 26, 2014, 12:53:15 PM »
I recently got back into collecting anime figures/statues. It's a nice hobby, but a damn expensive one.
So go ahead, share your figures!
(I'll post the small collection I have later today)

Members Manga / GRANSORA - Chapter Of Seifer
« on: August 14, 2014, 03:52:19 PM »
Hello
This here is part of a project I'm doing.
Basically, I'm drawing a series of chapters that serve as a backlog for my series GRANSORA.
Each chapter will focus on a character's life as a human being, and how he/she ended up in the realm of GRANSORA.

(I did a small oneshot for the story some time ago. If you haven't read it, here is a link:
http://forums.mangaraiders.com/index.php/topic,10092.0.html )

This chapter tells the story of Seifer. It is not complete, and I will keep updating it in the days to come.
I would love to get your feedback. Please enjoy!

This is read from RIGHT to LEFT.

General Discussion / The Walking Dead comic

Does anyone know where I can read it online? I found a site that only allows downloads, but a single issue is around 10 MB, which is too much for my internet to handle.

Tips and Tutorials / [Tutorial] How To Color Manga
« on: February 14, 2014, 02:00:03 PM »
..Or how to make a cover for your own manga. Whichever works for you.
I will go through the steps of achieving something like this:

1- Pencil sketch

2-Using an Alpha marker (or a Copic marker, they're basically the same, the former being a poor man's version of Copic), color the face. Do this BEFORE inking, or else it'll smudge.

3- Ink it. Once you're done, you're gonna need to add shading. This can be done is several ways. Most manga artists use a different shade of the same marker. However, I've discovered a cheaper, more efficient way. Use a WATER COLOR PENCIL. These are basically pencils made of paint material. You can color with it, and once you're done, add water to it and it turns into paint.

You'll have something like this:

4- Now to turn the pencil into paint. You can add water with a brush, but an easier way is to just go over it with the marker. The water in it will seemlessly blend it all together. This is what you'll have, if done right.

5- The face is the hardest. Once done, everything else is easy.

6- Just go crazy with the background.

7- Scan it and do some Photoshop touch-ups.

Hope this helps.

This is a really short one shot of my manga GRANSORA. Well, it's more of a prologue, and chapter 1 takes place after its events.

General Discussion / Kishimoto interview at Jump Festa 2014
« on: December 23, 2013, 04:13:51 PM »
There are no solid links as it is spread all over the internet. Just a simple Google search will give you tons of sites and sources. It might be fake and made up for the sake of trolling, but here are the main points included in the so called interview:
-Naruto will end in 2014.
-Kishimoto has the ending set in stone from the start, but he still has no idea how to make Madara fall.
-Sasuke was meant to be a hokage candidate from chapter one (no idea how or why, considering the manga is very predictable and yet not once did we get a hint of him wanting to be hokage).
-The reason we haven't seen Yamato since the start of the war is because he's dead.
-Something about "wait until the real villain is revealed".
As you can see, it sounds very very fake, but you never know, it might be true.
So, go on, speculate!

Tips and Tutorials / How to draw a manga page.
« on: October 22, 2013, 01:23:50 PM »
Name. Usually I don't do names ( or manuscripts ) because I do these pages just for practice. Most of the times I have a clear imagination of the page in my head. But for the sake of this tutorial, here's how it looks:

I start sketching.

I shape the pannels. Notice how the vertical spaces are much smaller then horizontal ones. This is true in pretty much every shonen manga out there.

More sketches based on the name:

Page sketch is done.

I start inking with my.. well... ink pens.
Once I'm done, I scan it and open it with Photoshop.
From there I add the texts and gray tones.
( I had no time to ink it sorry  :push: )

Suggestions And Feedback / How about a One Piece topic?

This was brought up in the past but nothing happened. I think that OP deserves a sticky topic for chapter discussion. All in favor vote!

General Discussion / Have you ever done this?
« on: October 17, 2013, 03:31:02 PM »
Have you ever developed a side character so much and delved deep into his backstory that you actually started seeing him as a better and more interesting main character than the original planned one?
What would you do in this case?

General Discussion / How do you start?
« on: October 04, 2013, 11:33:30 AM »
This has been bugging me for some time. I have this story. I have these massive ideas. I have the pieces losely tied together. But i just don't have the drive to get started on writing the chapters. I'm always coming up with new ideas. Sometimes i would think a scene looks good, but then i wake up next morning with a better scene. And then a few mornings after that i find an even better scene than the one before it. I'm afraid that if i start writing my chapters, then one day I'll wake up and scratch them all and start all over. Nothing is quite etched in stone.
So how do you ( writers ) do it? At what point do you say "screw it, I'm gonna start writing the chapters" ? And let's say, down the road, you reached chapter 5 or 6 and have them written. Do you ever go back and change stuff? Or do you keep moving forward despite some regrets?
