The long story challenge!!.
Release your imagination to the real picture.  Write me your story and i will draw it for you.
Reward: Drawing of your story in high resolution Photoshop file that you can use it for
any thing just give me little cradit on intro page(I will not publish this work in my country).
    What you need to do:
       1. Short story include plot and describe of charactor in the story (With charactor design if possible).
       2. Story board of "one shot" story in the range of 14-32 pages(can be shorter).
This is the template file for story board.
             [dl.dropboxusercontent.com] https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1457886...-storyboard.pdf
and this is example of the story board.

Story board is the guide for real manga pages. It must contain the containt as following.
1- Structure of the page and composition of charactor.
               2- Dialogue
My story board use upper box as the drawing board to draw composition of the page.
The lower section use to write the dialogue that will link to the balloon in upper section.
your story board can be simple as the first box(just stick figure and some background referent)
but it will be a lot easier for me if you can draw draft version like in the last two boxes.
The extra text can be add to describe the mood of the character or the situation.
I open up for any kind of story as long as it not involve Y stuff.

Time limit is 1 month from now on so. I will design the story that i will draw on 16 september.
I will draw from story board that have the most detail. You can do your story board conventional way
(print it out>draw>scan back) or on PC completely as long as it is in my pattern.
You can send story board to me by PM or post download link here.

I looking forward to working with you guy and get evolve together. This will be a good practice for me
as an artish and for you guy as the story teller.
more stuff about manga storyboard is here.

 Here is my working style.
 http://forums.mangaraiders.com/index.php/topic,12402.0.html

The reason that i choose to work with one shot first because one shot is fundamental for all manga work.
If you can not write the shot story, you can not write the longer either. 8)

Recently, Progress in my work get a little bit slower. That why i design to post my work in this place at least
1 work per week. This will include some technique and trick that i use in the process.  let get start and learn together.

In this picture i use "red line" technique to capture real picture. the process is as following.
  1. Capture real image from internet
  2. put it in Photoshop convert picture to line art as this link
  http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/photo-to-sketch/
then put red screen layer on top of all layer to convert the line to red line.
3.use inkjet printer to print the image back in faint red color.
  4. sketch extra stuff (character building etc.) with pencil.
  5. Inking
  6. Scan line art back in color mode at 600 dpi. then remove red line.
  7. add some screen tone.
Yep. it look complicate but if you want some realism look in you manga, this is one way to achieve it.

If you have any doubt, feel free to ask. (If it does not too complicate i will answer with my poor english lol)

Manga Art Gallery / Two hour challenge - Update
« on: December 04, 2014, 12:11:59 PM »
The objective of this topic is to develop technique that can shorten working time on 1 full manga page down to 2 hour per page .

Three page above is my first batch of my work. The working time (include all process from drafting to lining) is exactly 2 hour per page but it still unfinished work. There are no screen tone, no black-out and no detail rendering on image.

My current technique is like this.
 1. Draft manga pages in small scale like this one

Scan it in to digital form. I use this thumbnail as a story board and guide for page drafting.
this process take about 15-20 min. per thumbnail.
2. Enlarge the thumbnail to A4 size then print it back in color or b&W to use as a guide page for drafting.

3. Place plan paper on the guide page and use light box to draw draft line.

I draw draft line in blue color. This step take about 40 min. to 1 hour . Guide page can shorten working time on drafting.
4. Draw outline. I use pencil outline technique like this one
http://forums.mangaraiders.com/index.php/topic,10424.0.html
Use pencil to draw outline, I can reduce working time on outline drawing down to around 1  hour per page (no shading and texturing) but ,as you see, it still unfinished work

If you have any technique that can reduce working time, feel free to share it here.
If you have any dough about working process, feel free to ask.

  Thank for all comment. ;D

Tips and Tutorials / Pencil lineart technique ver.2
« on: March 03, 2014, 04:46:47 AM »
Ver.2 of line art by pencil. The idea is simple,Color mechanical pencil is used for
drafting then 4B mechanical is used to do line art. Finally hand work will be scanned
in to digital form and Photoshop will be used to adjust line brightness.
The follows ficture is the tool used in this technique.

1.and 2. color mechanical pencils for drafting (red and blue color).
3.4B-0.5 mm. mechanical pencil for main line work.
4.4B-2 mm.mechanical pencil for bolder line work.
5.#0 sand paper, it use to sharp mechanical core to draw thinner line.

 1. First step is to scan handwork by pencil in to digital form in color mode
   at 600 dpi.

 2. Using Image>adjust>level to mark the darkest and lightest area of the picture,
turn pencil line into pure black line. You can also use function in
Image>adjust catagorie to adjust line quality.

3.remove color line by Image>adjust>Black&white and reduce the draft line with red-blue color.

4.the final adjustment, erase all remain dust and draft line.

This is the alternative way for some one who can not acess G-pen or
someone who want to reduce their budged.

Tips and Tutorials / DIY background drawing board ver1.0
« on: December 24, 2013, 07:58:25 AM »
As for background drawing, It is very important to use two point perpective in art work . Perpective drawing is time-consuming process, because drawer need to line up their ruler with VP. (veneching point) every time they draw a referent line.
In this topic, i will present a DIY equipment  for faster background drawing. I call it background drawing board. Idea of the equipment is using of transparency sheet as a flexible ruler and using of thumb tack that push through the flexible ruler into the plastic card board as a pivot point as following picture .

How to make a background drawing board.
1. Put transparency sheet in to spine clip and lock it together with sticky tape.  spine clip will be use as a paper holder and it's edge will use as a referent line to draw a horizontal line with a ruler.

2. Cut a transparency sheet in to small band and bend it inside as shown in the picture . This thing will use as a referent line to draw a vertical line.

3. Stick this piece in the head and the bottom of the sheet in step 1, this will be use as a referent line to draw a vertical line.

4. Cut the plastic cardboard in to a desired size and glue the drawing board with plastic cardboard as following picture . the center plate will use as a paper holder and the other plate will use as a plate to hold the thumb tack for flexible ruler.

5. Cut the transparency sheet into long band as following picture and use it as a flexible ruler.

6.The thumb tack is pushed through the tiny piece of transparency sheet that glue with the main ruler as following picture. This  thumb tack will use as a pivot point for flexible ruler

How to use it
Put the paper in to spine clip

Use the edge of spine clip as a referent line to draw a horizontal line.

Use the upper band as a referent line to draw a vertical line.

Pin the thumb tack in to drawing board at the desired VP. and use edge of flexible ruler to draw the background.

With this equipment, Background drawing can be done more faster and more accurate.

Topic today is "Guid box" ,In the past i alway stuck with perfective drawing of charactor it so hard
to put charactor on back ground but  finally i figure out the way to solve my problem by draw "guide box" or "guide plate" around the charactor to use it as a referent for charactor drawing , the box will
guide correct position of body part and also guide you the way that you can draw it more 3D.

Tips and Tutorials / Tip to design manga panal structure.
« on: April 22, 2013, 01:43:08 AM »
This techniq come from photograph techniq.

Since manga picture are the same kind as photograph picture , only one different is that manga picture
come from your imagine instead of from real image, so we can use tech niq that use for take a photo
 for manga drawing.
  1. first techniq call ...i think .." nine section rule"  It is offer that focus point of the picture
should be on the crossing point of 2 vertical and 2 horizental line that devide picture
into 9 part. In above picture " nine section rule" represent in red line
 2. Second techniq call ... Straight line and curve .... use line of object or line in the picture to lead
reader to the focus point in the picture. In above pictur ,this techniq represent by blue line.
If you have seen pro,s work , a lot of them fit with this technique.
