General Manga writer discussions / Re: Is it bad I don't write scripts?
« on: January 30, 2016, 01:34:04 PM »
All of your replies were helpful, thank you! I've tried scripts before but they haven't worked for me before. I'm not sure if it's for a lack of writing skills or just that I prefer to go with the flow but I never just make it up as I go. I normally plan out the issue I'm writing and I have the whole story planned out from beginning, middle, and end roughly. I may try script again for more difficult scenes and since publishers may want it as well. Thank you for your help :)

General Manga writer discussions / Is it bad I don't write scripts?
« on: January 30, 2016, 03:08:19 AM »
Whenever I write manga I don't write a script, what I do is I plan out and write down what will happen in the issue, and then I draw a rough draft storyboard. When ever I write a script I feel like my rough drafts feel stiff but I feel more fluid doing it this way but I wonder if I should write scripts for when I submit my comic to publishers.

I am having a bit of trouble with drawing shadows...specifically on people...and the face is easy enough I can find tutorials on the face but now the rest of the figure...know any good reference or tutorial I could use? It'd help a bunch!

Manga Artists Tools / Re: Copic vs Computer

Lately I've been using computer mostly with manga studio and my graphic tablet but I still love using copic markers for traditional art coloring  ;)

On the top left corner, you colored that part with diagonal strokes -> /
On the top right corner, it's this -> \ and just below that are short semi vertical strokes and horizontal ones at the end of the blue part. The center top part was zigzagged.

If you want to color horizontally, do everything in horizontal. If you like vertical, do vertical. You can use a ruler too.

OK I getcha :)

Tell me if anything needs to be improved or whatever.

• Proportions. You need to measure body parts. Just a few to mention: the hip is unnaturally small, the size of a hand should be around a face length, the legs are curved and bent to the right, he'll fall back.
• For the coloring, try shading with uniform strokes and as much as possible, avoid doing it in different lengths.
• The texts are too big, very plain, and unnaturally merged with the art. Designing a cover and placing the elements depends on your preference but you could do a few image search on manga/comic covers.

What are uniform strokes? :notunderstand:

hey ayano
but judging by your drawing skills, I suppose you're like 11 or 12 years old?
sorry if I'm wrong, but thats my impression.

Tis not age that's the concern, it's drawing ability. Everyone has different skill levels and those skill levels don't necessarily match up to how young or old they are. If what you presume is an 11 or 12 year old drawing, then I must be a 5 year old by your presumption!

Also, Tanaka-san, your art seems pretty good so far. Just keep a look out on proportions as the character's legs seem thinner than his upper body.  ;) Keep it up and you'll get better!

Side note: The link to your manga is gone, as Inkblazers shut down beginning of February.
Yes I know I posted this before it shut down, this was done MONTHS ago so my skills have improved.

hey ayano

i'm really not here to offend anyone. I'd like to help people to become better artists, thats all.
to be honest, it's really hard to give you an opinion without possibly hurting your feelings
and thats why I believe no one has replied on this post yet.

but judging by your drawing skills, I suppose you're like 11 or 12 years old?
sorry if I'm wrong, but thats my impression.

you need a lot of practice and theoretical knowledge.

if you need someone to ask directly for help, I'd gladly help you out

just PM me if you have a facebook profile since I dont use any other messengers

regards

One, I drew this MONTHS ago so my drawing skills have improved slightly, two, I'm older then 12, though I'd rather not say my age right here maybe in a PM, but thanks for commenting, I might take you up on your offer.

Develop Your Story / Re: Manga idea: Planet Makemake
« on: January 19, 2015, 09:49:40 AM »
so if space travel is so common at this time, why haven't they discovered any planet when we can look past the kuiper belt in modern times?
Well they have discovered other planets past the kuiper belt, BUT Makemake is way off their course plus like I said no one has gone on Makemake and survived, so there will be  a less chance of being rescued.

(Pronounced maikei maikei and not like the japanese ai that makes an I sound!)
In the year 2950 space travel is very common and when a group of 14 year olds goes on a field trip past the kuiper belt they lcrash and get stuck on a planet called "Makemake", where toxic gases, deadly aliens, and poison plants reside, no one has ever come to the planet and live to tell about it. Now Charles(The leader of the group)must find a way to keep everyone from going crazy and to try and get off the deadly horrific planet!
