General Manga writer discussions / Re: Writing a psychological manga.

Ooh! i really like the two ideas you gave in!
You certainly do seem like someone who can make up some good survival plots, i'd say try putting more "dangerous elements?" (I guess..) and i'm sure you'll do good.
Unfortunately, i can't really be of any help, although i wish to write a psychological concept, my brain just can't work that out so  :(.. (Whenever i hear psychological though, i automatically think of Death note or Bakuman's Reversi )
But whatever you choose, i'll make sure to check what you've got ^^!

Thank WorldBeyondFantasy, at first my brain also don't work that out but as I read more and more psychological manga, my brain started to work like that. If you also want to write a psychological concept then I would advice you to read/watch more psychological manga/anime. Right now I am trying to figure out what to do with the opposition then I would start writing a psychological battle.

It's interesting but it seems almost random that ghosts should be acting that way. A deeper explanation behind that could be useful.

Other than that though you're just going to have to see what happens as you write out the stories. You can think up tense psychological situations just for fun and just to test them out, but you may be better served by actually writing the story and then polishing up drafts till they read better.

Actually, I have think of a reason why the ghost act like that. When a ghost possess a person and that person commit a sin the ghost become powerful. So the ghost posses a person tell them to kill another 'Half' in a certain time limit other wise they will die. Killing another 'Half' is the biggest sin for them so they become powerful. If that person can't kill another 'Half' they understand that they possessed the wrong person so they kill that person to leave there body. Once that person all the power they gained from that person also disappear so the ghost want the person they posses to live long so that they can enjoy power. Remember killing another 'Half' is a sin that is bigger than killing another normal human being. ;)

That's actually a nice riddle there.

Is the MC's name literally XYY? How do Halves know they are in this situation?

No, No, XXY is a temporary name so I will change it as I come up with actual name. For your second question let say you are a 'Half' and you look in the mirror then you will see that your right half is yourself and left half is somebody else let say a girl which is the ghost that possessed you. Then that girl i.e. the ghost will tell you everything how many time left before you die or whatever you ask her. Remember they also have a personality.
I have I can make you understand.

@Blackbird - Thank you, your "Noticing the tiny things no one else sees" give me some idea. I will try to come up with riddles from now on.

I think you're worried about the wrong thing. The issue is, do you have a story that you want to write? It's the story and the characters that will lead you to a field of battle. Say a shopping mall has hidden a million dollars in a certain bag of marshmellows, and they've closed every customer who wishes to participate in there. I already have an idea in my head just from that premise. We could limit the product to let's say 100 bags of marshmellows. And say only 20 people are participating. They are told they can only chose one before being disqualified. But there will be clues given to them. Hm, say they are even allowed to join in groups and cooperate or something...

Well, I suck at that sort of thing, but really, you're putting something else before the main idea. Death Note has nice psychological thrills, yes, but if Kira was a whining fool then it wouldn't be that great. Characters make it. Liar game had a super innocent girl with no hope to win the game and a cunning man who knew his stuff. These are great characters too. They act as a foil to one another and push the game forwards.

So, think of a story first before you worry about a psychological manga.

If you need some idea for what to make a 'battlefield' tense with just think of the five motives for murder perhaps.

I already have two stories, thought both of them are fantasy oriented so I don't want them to move forward but I already know I can't write realistic story so I gonna try to continue them. Well, let me share the synopsis:-

1. Half

In this world there are certain people who are possessed my ghosts. They are known as 'Half'. Normal people cannot recognize a 'Half' but another 'Half' can. These 'Half' looks like humans even there IQ is also like a normal human or rather say same as the person's body the ghost possessed but when they them self look at the mirror they see half of them are there own body and another half is someone's else. These 'Half' cannot live long so they only way to extend there life span is to kill other 'Half' but they have to be careful so that they won't get caught by the police. XYY is a national top student who can boast the science of the country, can after becoming a 'Half' can he live long?

2. The Wish Card/Detective vs Criminal.

XXY is a useless rookie detective so join the agency recently. One day, he got a invitation in which it said 'Congratulations! you are one of the thousand contestant of the contest. You got 5 wish cards and you can wish anything and we will grant it. You can also make unrealistic wish we will grant it, for eg:- change this piece to paper into a nice watch'. This wish card have one restriction and this it can't bring back the dead. You can win more wish card by killing a person who have wish card. Unless, you kill that person you can't use their wish card. If you want to quit this contest you must win once and use all of your wish card. If you use all of your wish cards before winning once then you will be kidnapped. Last but not least, there is a way to bring back the dead if you want to know more you have to kill five wish card holders.' XXY first didn't take it seriously but then he did a experiment by making a unrealistic wish and it became true. After some time he got a call from higher up. They said that it is a top secret case and he is now involved in it. XXY got a really got chance to prompt, what will happen to him next?

I think I will go with the first one since it's more original. Please give your opinion and I have one more questions.

How to write riddles.

Thank you.

General Manga writer discussions / Writing a psychological manga.
« on: August 10, 2014, 12:46:47 AM »
This is one genre which is very less discussed in this forum. Anyway, I am trying to write a psychological manga and I have seen or read plenty of psychological anime or manga. After watching or reading those I understanding how should I write it and I tried to write some battle with dummy character and dummy field and I could say I have the ability to write a decent one. Now, my problem is with the field of battle or background or what ever you say. I can write a psychological battle but can't create a field, like is liar game there are games in which the battle take place, those are the field but I can't create my own game. I have tried many times to create my own game but I failed. I don't want to choose detective vs criminal because it will be too cliche so what should I do about field? Please help me on this.

Thank you. :D

No, No, No, No, No, No, this is not my work. It's something I found of the internet. Since it's not my work I posted it here. I thought it might give inspiration to other artist for converting character from one style to another style.

General Discussion / Re: Analysis of Screentones and other.
« on: June 03, 2014, 05:23:31 AM »

here's the first image...its a spread. what do you consider the screentone choices used for this particular page?

Well, screentone for the eyes. To indicate the shine the author has add white with gray outline which go along really well. Other than that using gray on the center in circular manner and below it using gray in a half-moon manner is also good technique. And finally the black on the upper side and using black as outline is also good, overall making the eye ball looking mangalish realistic. I can also see screentone to indicate the shadow of the eyelids. I can also see screentone to indicate the mouth and the nose which is also a good decision. And finally for the hair, I have nothing new to say, light shade on the light side and dark shade on the dark side is perfectly well.

Develop Your Story / Re: New story, unsure of title as of now
« on: June 01, 2014, 11:39:25 AM »
I agree with Lorenx1, this story is very mush pekemonish and don't have that kind of hook so I have an idea I am willing to share, this way it can enter a shonen manga category. The kingdom have a group or organization supported by king's money. King want them to explore the new land. The main character's father was in that group, when the main character's father's team (including the father) go to the new lands they never return so the main protagonist want to find his dad and want to know what made his dad to throw his life like this. To know the answer of his dad's feeling he went to explore the new lands.

How that, I will also suggest a things since the disappearance of main character's dad, his mom has broken down and started crying so he promised his mother that he will bright his dad back. It would also he better if increase main' character's age and instead of his dad make it his lover, making the guy more desperate.

Hope you like my suggestion.

Well, I really appreciate your kindness for sharing your method but I can't use it though. Because first I am kind of lazy, first writing then scraping it and again rewriting is kind of tiring for me. Well, I don't have something for dialog but I do have some for thought burbles and love story. When I start the thought I generally show something natural in the panel something like another character is checking in the hotel and he is looking here and there of the hotel hall. And secondly, when between the thought ( I mean thought is really long and would take a few panels ) I use what character is thinking. For example :- The story I am currently writing (Will be on the forum soon) in one panel I show a girl hung herself (suicide) and a guy in his knees crying beside him and the dialog my protagonist is thinking is "Every assassin have a dark past, every".

Another thing I use in love story with love square is my so called 'reverse theory'. Let the general layout be x loves y and y also loves x but z loves y and u loves x so there are interfering with x and y's love. In this type of case reader generally thought the z and u should love each other so that x and y's love would get hampered. And reader also expect x and y ending with z and u ending but in 'reverse theory' it's opposite happens. Due to a incident y start liking z and x start liking u and the ending become x and u ending and y and z ending. For better explanation you can watch the anime Nagi no Asukara.

Thanks a lot Coryn, Vacant, Lorenx1. It gives me a rough idea of how long should my one-shot and each chapter should be.

I have a few question.

How many pages does a One-shot consist of?
How many pages does a serialized chapter of manga consist of?
First we make a one-shot and publish it in the magazine and if it done good in the rating then it get serialized, right? So does we have to repeat the things happened in the one-shot again in serialized chapter or should we mark the one-shot as chapter one and serialized from chapter 2?

Manga Writer workshop / Re: Writers Workshop General Discussion
« on: April 13, 2014, 06:41:20 AM »
My opinion:-

1. Workshop on different genes and topic.

For example, a person is good in action but not in romance so he/she can sharp his/her skill in romance workshop and vise verse. Also a workshop on character creation, world creation, scene creation, etc.

2. Fun workshop if you write the introduction or rules of workshop in such a way which sound gummy then it may unmotivated people while if you like in funny way by cracking some jokes then might a lot of people do it. However, if people have the will to do it and it they think this workshop will benefit them then they will do it despite the way you write it.

3. No comment.

General Manga writer discussions / Re: Love triangles?
« on: April 07, 2014, 12:20:24 AM »
A tip : If you are making a love triangle then I would suggest to introduce the main character and the two other character in first chapter. Also make sure that the distance between the character is same. For example :- In Hayate no Gotoku! I always feel that Hayate is Nagi's butler so Hayate will end up with Nagi not anybody else. Where Hayate's relation with other girls was just classmates or friends. So I will suggest if one person make a move than let the other person make a move too. And also check there relation carefully so that readers can't see through your plot.
