Develop Your Story / "Red Room/ The Victims" Story idea
« on: February 10, 2019, 04:08:19 PM »
I have this story idea.  I would be interested to see what people think about it.  I feel like its a little dark.  I think it could be an interesting comic.  Looking for your thoughts, or see if there is something similar out there.  This is a rough outline of my story idea!  So I'm gonna take a leap and see what happens.  I am very nervous about this, but I got to get over that.  Sorry, its this is unpolished.  I am going to clean this up as time goes on, but I figured I'd start here.

Story is about a girl.  She wakes up dazed and confused in a small room and she is tied up to a chair.  She looks around, it has a red light bulb, so the room is lite in red, there is also a table in front of her with many items including a saw, needles, knifes, pliers, a blow torch.  As well as a laptop and camera setup.  She notices the camera is recording and also what appears to be a chatroom of the type on the computer screen.  Then a man walks in, wearing a mask.  He goes to the computer and starts talking about his "guest" and who is the highest bidder.  She is still confused, starts crying, pleading to be let go.  The man turns around and tell her "Congratulations, the highest bidder wants a good show tonight" and he starts to pull off her nails with the pliers.  The modern version of the snuff movie, a Red Room is a live stream of the torture and murder of a person for the entertainment of others.  After awhile of torture, the man takes a break before the big finale.  As she is crying, knowing what fate is to come, she starts singing.  Its her coping mechanism, which is odd, but she needs to find peace before her demise.  As the man walks back in, he hears her sing.  He is impressed, but moves to the chatroom to see who the highest bidder is and what tools or technique to use to execute her.  Well... everyone in the chatroom loved her voice.  Odd, this has never happened before, they really don't want to waste that talent!  The man see's the highest bidder and is intrigued by his request.  Looks like its her lucky day.  The highest bidder and the man have come to an agreement to keep her around.  They have come to an agreement to try something new in the dark web world.  She is their slave, she will perform at meetings, conferences, where these men and woman meet up to discuss kidnappings, weapons, human trafficking, the secret underground world that provides to the dark web.  Guess you can say, to provide entertainment to  these business men.  They keep her in the red room, live streaming, forced to perform there as well, threatened if she escapes, seeks help, or does not do as told, she will meet her fate.  As time goes on, the bidder and the man "recruit" (kidnap) others to join her to form a band.  Going to bars, small venue concerts, finding a drummer, and guitarist.  Forming the band The Victims.  What will happen?  Will they be forced to do this for their rest of their life, fight back knowing they will be hunted, tortured and killed, or give in to become one of them.....

More info would help!!  I'm intrigued!

Alright!  After about 5 days of not drawing, it was a nice break, I have been watching youtube videos and found a channel I really like and it inspired me!  Here is some body work I did, free handed, and didn't use reference pictures... I wanted to see what I am capable of, PLEASE IGNORE THEIR FACES!!  For the most part, I kinda like their bodies and clothing, KINDA, I am real happy with the girl in the dress, mainly her legs cause my goal was to make it look like she was taking a step.  Sooooo not too bad, for not following a tutorial or reference picture.  And last but not least.... I am so happy with the third picture!  I did follow a tutorial, I wanted to get better with the 3/4 face look, and I am very overall happy with how she turned out, and she doesn't look exactly like the girl from the tutorial I follow, the youtuber is very good at explaining angles ect.  I can't wait to finish her!!  I don't want to mess her up, Im not sure what are the best steps to take next to draw a body on her.  But for now, I am very pleased with her!!

Yeah I just feel like I'm drawing the same thing over and over with not much improvement, but yet I still see improvement... if that makes sense haha.  For example: I always felt like my faces look like the shape of an aliens, and when I think I've done better, I look and see an alien STILL, its like: is the chin to pointy, is there not enough cheeks, are the eyes too close, and I try to adjust then I get too wide of a face, still a pointy chin, eyes are not in the right spot, and too much blank space around the mouth to nose to eyes.....  So its a little frustrating, I know I need to be patient, but when you try making improvements but it looks the same, or worse, and you erase and go back to the orignal look that you weren't happy to begin with, is annoying.  I like the idea of working on small project, draw so many hands, or eyes ect.  Work on small details.  I found a new youtube channle for tutorials, and I really like her technique and how she gives direction, so its very encouraging to pick up the sketch book again after a few days.  I have been writing some story ideas, that's what I have been doing instead of drawing.  I'm glad too see I am not the only who can get burnt out!!

Update:  I've been working on head and hair style, I'm pretty happy with how she looks, and I took advice about the necks being too small for their head, so hopefully her neck is a good size for her head, I personally like how it looks, and I appreciate the tips!  Next, I was wanting to add a body to her........... the struggle is REAL, I am having the worse time figuring out portion size and how to angle it properly.  The frustration ughh, any suggestions?  Feel free to use my image to draw over for any pointers and recommendations!

Yeah I get an hour, but I live just far enough away that its not worth the drive, so I eat in my car, play youtube videos, or music, and draw.  Then at night I play video games with my buddies and in between loading sessions I draw a lil more.  So I don't draw often, but enough to get some practice.  I heard if your uncomfortable drawing certain parts of the body to draw it 100 times, so I have been considering doing that!

I draw on paper almost everyday, usually on my lunch breaks at work, and a little in the evening, I have a few drawings I've been working on, one face straight on and working on hair technique and portions on head size and neck, and angle face which is almost done I just need to finish her hair, and today on I wanna work on a body pose and maybe if I have time hands.  I don't do digital art often because I am so new to it, I rather draw on paper and scan it into the program, but that would end up me tracing over it, so I not do that?  But yeah, I'm embarrassed I could figure out how to free hand her, I love this character especially her hair, and like I said, I just really wanted to play around.  I value your guys feedback and concerns!!!!!

Thank you Gabryel!  I was using Clip Studio Art, but its not very beginner friendly (for me at least), so I did this on SketchBook.  I've never done digital art before, I also haven't drawn in years, I feel like my best bet is to draw on paper and then scan into program.  I also have Adobe Photoshop, but I use that for my photography, I'm not sure where to begin for manga on it!

Did some fan art, and thought I practice with some digital art: Jugyeong from True Beauty from webtoons.

Its not great, but I like it. It was kinda therapeutic to do, and it gave me the chance to play with some programs....  I do see a few things I need to work on, so I can eventually scan my own drawings in.  But for now, I was just kinda playing.

Awesome advise!  I was watching a tutorial the other day, the person recommended NOT doing the stick figures, but doing the box shapes instead, is there a method you guys prefer?  I need to make sure neck are too small, I see that now, I'm so glad that was pointed out!  I feel like little things like that help so much!  I just need to figure out body and angles, then move to feet, hands, and clothes ekk

This weeks drawing....  I feel like I'm slowly getting better at heads and hair, but I have to use some sort of guide/ reference picture.  I'm also trying to work on the body and angles, but I SUCK at bodies!!! I need to study up on human anatomy

attempt with 'clothes'

Any tips or suggestions are much appreciated!
Also I've been playing with some digital art, and I can use your opinions, I'm worried that I did something disrespectful (I think that the word I want to use).  But I took a very simple picture off google and uploaded it onto sketchbook and worked on layers and tracing, I should use my own drawings for practice, but I wanted something more clean, if that makes sense and it was a cute picture.  After I was done outlining/tracing, I played with colors, (its a new program and I wanted to play around) and I love how it looks!  But I don't want to share it, I feel like I cheated, BUT I feel like I was just practicing and having fun, and I'm not claiming or saying its my drawing or passing it as my own, I don't know, thoughts? is that okay or is it straight up plagiarism?

I agree with Coryn, get organized!  Also, I keep a small notebook near me to when I come with ideas, and later I get on my journal (on the computer) and add it there, clean it up, or combine it with a previous story I've come up with in the pass.  That's what I do personally.  Hope this helps!
