Feel like I’ve only been setting myself for failure lately, as in I lack the knowledge to pull off any of the things I try. I’ll probably just immerse myself in studies for a while.

still feels stiff  :hmm: maybe boobs to big :notunderstand:
Spoiler
Mostly it's the head that is huge compared to the body. I think the shoulders for a woman should be two heads wide, but if someone else could confirm this that would help.

Boobs are never too big.

That head is definitely way huge compared to the body, and it is screwing up your proportions. Two heads, if not a bit more, sounds about right, but since we are at it, let's check.
Spoiler

I think we can call this two and a half, but then again she has a somewhat athletic physique so this would change depending on the woman. Strive for 2 to 2 and a half heads I'd say.

She also seems to be leaning a bit too much to the right, so anatomy and posture I think are where you should focus your practice for now.

I think it's an outrage that we are five pages into this thread and no one has brought up Miura Kentaro yet.

This is something I’m currently learning and struggling with myself, so don’t take everything I say as gospel, ‘cause a better artist might come around and tell you its all BS.

Action is all about weight and direction. When you are drawing this sort of scenarios, the body needs to communicate where the forces are going and how big they are in a clear manner. In the case of characters there’s supposed to be a certain flow from where the force originates to where it is directed at and often times this requires breaking the equilibrium. I suck with explanations, so if it’s sounding kinda hazy, this might illustrate better what I mean.

Spoiler

Now, this is where your drawing gets confusing, because there are several contradicting ques on it. If you’ll just let me borrow your drawing for a bit…

Spoiler

There ya go. Now, those red lines are meant to represent the direction of the weight (or force) of the characters, while the blue ones are just complementary ques that are not necessarily related to weight, but do convey movement (ex.: long garments fluttering due to air when a person runs). As you can see, looking at the lines, it looks like the character on the left is pushing the one on the right, who in turn is being pushed back with little to no resistance, because his whole body is going in that direction. This might have been what you wanted to draw, as in his punch just failed and the other guy is pushing him to intimidate him, but not only would that be an odd choice for a moment to capture in an illustration, it would make the guy on the right’s left arm be in a completely unnatural position. In other words, his red line should be going the opposite way, even if he’s losing the struggle.

Now, there are a couple of ways in which you can practice all this mumbo jumbo, like drawing your own magnificent red lines on top of stock images (real, if you can help it) to identify where the forces are going in it, much like I just did, or draw your own figures from reference while being mindful of all these concepts I threw at you. But like I said at the beginning, it’s all about weight, so I recommend you do exercises to understand weight distribution and I guarantee it’ll be much easier to put dem bodies into motion later.

Hope at least something of all this helps.

Pretty nice one you got there. She’s well-drawn and you use the watercolors effectively (I like the eyeshadow effect), but I think what I like most is the color choice. All colors on the girl and roses work well with each other and you use complementary ones to “frame” it and to draw attention to focal points, highlighting the composition which, again, works pretty dang well. Not huge on that ear though; from my non-proficient-on-watercolor perspective, I feel like a lighter tone would have done for a more effective shadow, especially since it looked like a pretty ear in  the sketch. Not a deal-breaker, just a bit distracting.

Will be waiting for #2.

Thought it would be an interesting subject to talk about.

Have you ever had a character that you like – maybe even love – but they just don’t seem to get any appreciation from the communities around you or even their own creator? Maybe their contributions to the plot or core themes go unnoticed, maybe their personality doesn’t have the same appeal for others or hell, maybe you just think their design is just that good.

Well, time to shine the spotlight on them.

We don't have proms here, and from what I'm reading, we are better off this way. Social politics in America are confusing as hell, especially when youth is involved.

The sport is growing in real life, should there be a manga too to ride the wave?
Does one already exist?

It does, but I don't think that should be a reason to discard the idea, it's still a mostly unexplored subject and from what I'm gathering here, they approach it very differently to how you would. It's called Teppuu.

Anime Talk / Re: New Anime by Rei Hiroe of Black Lagoon

Yeeeees. YEEEEEEES. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!

I know big names should not be a promise of quality and they are being stingy with the details, but this made my day. I love Rei Hiroe's work and any excuse to get him to do more of it is a godsend for me and Fate/Zero is the piece of Fate-related media I have enjoyed the most, including the visual novel.

I'm sure there's a background character out there who fits me better, but I have the same hair, stub, long face and I'm a lanky dood.

I recognize Michael Hampton here.

I don’t know if that’s common knowledge for advanced artists like yourself, but to me you seem like a connoisseur. I appreciate the advice a lot and will take it to heart!

Yeah I recognize some of the 90 second gesture drawings myself. They're so helpful for starting to conceptualize things taking up space. I'm impressed with the work going on here. I wish I had time and the energy to expend doing these kinds of things; I'd be doing them all day.

Thank you! I feel like figure drawing is always useful for warm-up and hand memory so I try to do it every now and then even though it's not the most fun. And yeh, I would like to have more time and energy too, it's not like I'm dishing these out by the minute. Brutal life and such.

Anime Talk / Re: Jojo's Bizarre Adventure DIU is getting a live action
« on: February 15, 2017, 01:10:41 PM »
Truth be told, I’m not very familiar with Japanese live action adaptations. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I have heard from several people that they tend to be kinda bad, and since I didn’t love the Death Note movies and there haven’t been other that drew me in, I haven’t been paying attention to them at all. Until today. It's looking pretty good, but even if its bad, this is going to be worth watching.

Also, Koichi doesn’t have the same swag he does in anime form. :/

Well, you get a big ol' pair of thumbs up from me. Keep it up! I love seeing sketchdumps like this.
Much appreciated, brother.
