This is something I’m currently learning and struggling with myself, so don’t take everything I say as gospel, ‘cause a better artist might come around and tell you its all BS.
Action is all about weight and direction. When you are drawing this sort of scenarios, the body needs to communicate where the forces are going and how big they are in a clear manner. In the case of characters there’s supposed to be a certain flow from where the force originates to where it is directed at and often times this requires breaking the equilibrium. I suck with explanations, so if it’s sounding kinda hazy, this might illustrate better what I mean.
Now, this is where your drawing gets confusing, because there are several contradicting ques on it. If you’ll just let me borrow your drawing for a bit…
There ya go. Now, those red lines are meant to represent the direction of the weight (or force) of the characters, while the blue ones are just complementary ques that are not necessarily related to weight, but do convey movement (ex.: long garments fluttering due to air when a person runs). As you can see, looking at the lines, it looks like the character on the left is pushing the one on the right, who in turn is being pushed back with little to no resistance, because his whole body is going in that direction. This
might have been what you wanted to draw, as in his punch just failed and the other guy is pushing him to intimidate him, but not only would that be an odd choice for a moment to capture in an illustration, it would make the guy on the right’s left arm be in a completely unnatural position. In other words, his red line should be going the opposite way, even if he’s losing the struggle.
Now, there are a couple of ways in which you can practice all this mumbo jumbo, like drawing your own magnificent red lines on top of stock images (real, if you can help it) to identify where the forces are going in it, much like I just did, or draw your own figures from reference while being mindful of all these concepts I threw at you. But like I said at the beginning, it’s all about weight, so I recommend you do exercises to understand
weight distribution and I guarantee it’ll be much easier to put dem bodies into motion later.
Hope at least something of all this helps.
