Title: My Fanart Stuff
Post by: Suuper-san on June 28, 2011, 10:04:27 AM
since i dont really do much manga practice i'm not that good, but i can copy stuff pretty darn well.
this is the only good picture i have ever drawn in my life, the character is Shinku from Rozen Maiden.

i would love to know how i could have improved this (other than adding colour), and will take any advice seriously unless it's stupid, in which case i wont :P

Holy... Damn, this is better than I expected. I got no critique so far except that she's kinda shoulderless, but I bet that it's just the style. About making it smaller, a lot of these upload sites like photobucket give you the option to resize your images. What do you use?

thankyou!

i used photobucket, i think it has got an option to resize, ill try that now...
EDIT:yeah photobucket can resize photos

oh and most of my drawings will not be as good as this, so expect your opinion of my work to drop dramatically :P

Don't worry, guessing by the way you colored this and the clean lines, I'd say you're better than I am.

=O wow, thanks a lot
i still think i have a lot of improvement to go before im as good as that all the time though, i still cant compose shots very well which is why i tend to stick to copying stuff....i suppose practice makes perfect :P

That's pretty good. Your lines are pretty nice and clean and the shading job aint shoddy. The hair was also nicely done. How long did you take to draw this?

I'm better at free hand than at copying, though.

Try coloring that!  ;D

Post by: Suuper-san on June 29, 2011, 08:03:14 AM
It took about 5 hours to do over 2 days, but I'm not sure how much time was spent actually drawing as I tend to daydream a lot.
I did consider colouring it but u was too scared. Plus wing colourblind I'm not always sure I have the right Colour and hate having to keep asking people. That's why almost all of my drawings are just black and White with lots of shading. If I ever get into doing stuff on the computer the. I'll add Colour as I can see the rgb values. Oh and no way am I adding labels to my pencils, that's too humiliating :P

I did consider colouring it but i was too scared. \

Yea I don't color my stuff too cuz I don't have color pencils and experience.
I'd be glad to try colouring on the computer, but it sounds difficult to do without a pen tablet or something.

heres a new set ive been working on. basically i cant really draw profile shots, well ive never really tried. so i got the bleach manga and just went through and picked out all the profile shots of Ichigo until i'd filled the page :P
tell me what you think guys, this took about 2 and a half hours total to draw all of them :)

Title: Re: My only ever good picture(s) (wait, what?)
Post by: Suuper-san on July 30, 2011, 02:08:29 PM
thanks, its a great idea especially if you have a larger collection as if you get bored of drawing one style you can switch to the other. it also means you get to learn more styles and can better choose your own. thats the plan anyways :P

and the day wouldn't be complete without some grave digging XD

I completely forgot I even had this thread lol

some fanart sketches after a page each of screenshot copying. not sure if to process them normally with all my other wips or have fanart wip folders, but then I start having a million different folders and while I like to be organised I think that's a bit insane haha

Spoiler
Hagimura Suzu (Seitokai Yakuindomo)

Suzumiya Haruhi (Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu)

having a specific character in mind when drawing helps a tiny bit for pose/expression as you're not starting at zero. hopefully this thread will get a bit more love and attention now that I'm revving up for fanart stuff now :)

@DCLegendia thanks! it's hard to stay "in character" when you're not used to it :P
@Rustee thanks! I'll post anything half decent XD

Shinon (SAO)
One of my more complex linearts. really want to have my own characters as interesting and detailed but I almost never draw with a fantasy setting despite it being my favourite genre. I'm probably nervous to draw it exactly because it is my favourite genre.

Some Yui as a pixie (SAO)
Funny how all my pages end up with 8 sketches. I suppose that's just how my brain deals with space.

Ahaha, as I've been saying for ages, fanart really is a great way to practice skills that you want to hone. It seems like that's finally working out for you, Suups. I'm glad.
Title: Re: My Fanart Stuff

thanks
It's a good way to practice getting details on characters without thinking of them for yourself. I'm definitely trying to have a good proportion of fan-art in my normal sketches now but it's hard to remember what the characters look like (as much as I do use references and screenshots, really I want to memorize it all XD)

edit with a second iteration of Yui. I figured it was best to fix the details before I forgot everything.
spent twice the time on each sketch but not much of an improvement visible, hmmm.

Man those are great suuper. With such a unique character design you can draw her posing about convincingly in space. Damn those are actually enough frames for an animation. You could do something interesting with your output and skill level dude.
Title: Re: My Fanart Stuff
Post by: Suuper-san on March 14, 2019, 01:43:31 PM
@rustee thanks!
@lego thanks. an animation huh? don't tempt me :P
I have got animation lined up but I'm saving that for when I level up even more in output and in accuracy. It takes way too much time and there's no point trying it out now when I can't even draw a single frame to my liking XD
Title: Re: My Fanart Stuff
Post by: Suuper-san on June 14, 2019, 06:41:25 AM
one of my recently cleaned arts was a fan art.
what I'm learning about how fan art works with my wip methods - you really gotta finalize the drawing sooner rather than later, as you start to forget details about the characters and they start not looking like who they're meant to.

Title: Re: My Fanart Stuff
Post by: Suuper-san on July 26, 2019, 09:41:18 AM
yeah I'm hoping to add at least 100 or so of my favourite characters into memory, to draw them in their original art style, as well as get their costume and details 100%
so much fan art to draw, I've been planning shots since I started watching anime.
Title: Re: My Fanart Stuff
Post by: legomaestro on July 26, 2019, 10:04:18 AM
Damn that'd be so useful to be honest. If I had all of my favourite characters commited to memory I could even use them as reference to quickly draw up characters while working on my comics
Title: Re: My Fanart Stuff
Post by: Suuper-san on July 26, 2019, 10:56:47 AM
well having anything memorized would be useful to be honest but yeah. I think hands would be useful to have some well proportioned poses memorized.
