Title: Everyone who are going to submit stories and art read this
Post by: Hasith on August 27, 2009, 11:46:49 PM
Those who submit full Manga (story+art) Make a topic for your project below format and post your work.

Vol. 03 : Name of Your Manga

Post here your completed project which is ready for the Anthology. So can point out if there are anything to correct. Not your art but format and things.

MR Anthology Gallery will also work as proof reading board. Post your each page here after you finish them. Others can point out any mistake those have.  Though you should post huge images make sure they are big enough so everyone can read your text.

I don't know from where you get all chakra to do all work. gotta demon fox sealed in your tummy ??

Got a question for you and I'm not sure if it goes here or not but Ill give it a shot. Well, I have a few questions, actually.

First, is there a publisher actually publishing the anthology?

Second, what is the arrangement with rights?

Third, How intense is the editorial process?

Fourth, how do I get involved?

1) Yes, it's already at the printers.

2) Sai or an admin can probably answer this in more detail than i can.

3) to my knowledge: you edit it yourself.. and submit it. IDK if that answers your question or not sorry.. i just submitted artwork for this only (no manga pages).

4) easy.. just get someone to draw out your story.. or draw it out yourself (<--- recommended) check out this thread for more info on the second Anthology.. and post all questions there ;) http://forums.mangaraiders.com/index.php?topic=2274.0

hope this helps satisfy your curiosity..

Rob... Bob... Why y'all gotta do this to me so early in the morning? >.<

1) It's not publishing in the truest sense, they're more like an on demand printer.

2) The creator(s) retains all the rights. The right to publish it in the specific anthology is the only right that MR has with your permission.

3) Initially, the editorial process was supposed to be a pretty rough one but to keep the experience fun and light, we just kept it simple. Like Rob said, the creator is the one responsible for most of the editing. You can ask other members to review your work if needed.

4) You can get involved by drawing standalone art, drawing manga, or finding an artist to draw your manga. If the latter is the case, both the writer and artist get credit (Story Written By: Illustrated By:).

When getting involved, make note that it is important for the writer to be able to draw basic character sketches and panel layouts for the artist (Unless some other arrangement is agreed upon in the beginning of the partnership) so that the artist doesn't have to continue to redraw characters and scenes. This saves both writer and artist valuable time. Panels can be as simple as shapes and stick people with labels.

One last thing: If at any time a work needs to be removed from the anthology at a later date, it can be done but the printer charges a fee (currently $20) to make the appropriate changes to the print document.

If you have any other questions, I'll be glad to answer them.

Mangaraiders don't own your stories.

What you agree is to have soem of your art published on a mangaraiders anthology volume. You just give the permission for the first edition.
If we have to make a second edition of the first anthology, we will ask you the permission to print your art again.

We all learn together how to make and print a book: each author has to respect technical elements like sizes, resolutions etc etc
Once we have collected all the elements, a member checks them, puts them in order, numbers the pages etc etc: that was my role for the first anthology. It's not a difficult process but it asks patience and precision.

Alright then.

I guess the only two questions I have left are what are the length of story limits and what are the content limits? My chars aren't having sex but there is usually some degree of violence, some strong language, and perhaps a little torture depending on the story.

You can have 15 pages!

For the content rules, you can check the ones from the first anthology.

More accurately:

We are now doing PG-13 because it gives us a lot more freedom, but do be sure to check up on its limitations thoroughly. We have a basic list of the limitations here:

http://forums.mangaraiders.com/index.php?topic=2073.0 (http://forums.mangaraiders.com/index.php?topic=2073.0)

As for copyright, some of it was covered in this topic:

http://forums.mangaraiders.com/index.php?topic=1982.0 (http://forums.mangaraiders.com/index.php?topic=1982.0)

And here are a few changes that we'll be making upon the creation of volume 2:

http://forums.mangaraiders.com/index.php?topic=2274.0 (http://forums.mangaraiders.com/index.php?topic=2274.0)

I can't find the rest of the information so I'll list it here. Pages must be:
-5 inches wide by 7.5 inches tall
-300 DPI (dots per inch)
-Saved in TIFF format without layers and in LZW compression
-Must be black, white, or grayscaled.

what's this?  ->> "LZW compression"
Title: Re: Everyone who are going to submit stroies and art read this
Post by: SaiHawkeye on November 13, 2009, 08:04:13 PM
It's an image compression technique that was made in the 80s by some dudes with last names that started with L, Z, and W from all I remember. It's very outdated but it's what our publisher requires. If your main image editor doesn't have it, you can just save it as PNG first and load it into Photoshop which should show you the compression options.

um' okay.. still don't quite get it yet.. but, when it comes time to submit something, i'll be bothering you about it then

Most of the pages I treated were already in tiff but it's easy and simple to convert a jpeg file to tiff in photoshop. Use the option save as, select tiff and LZW in the options and it's ok!

Alright, cool. Thanks everyone.

So since it's PG-13 and we're following the movie guidelines we can drop the f-bomb once in our story? Hahahaha, just kidding.

Anthology is printed in Black and white so color won't be a problem. Even you can submit scanned files and get them inked by someone in forum. :)

Yes. Post in List of Participants topic so I ll add you to the list.

The only problem I can see with using MS paint is that you won't be able to work at 300 DPI which is required by the printer. The pages can be scaled during publication but that may affect quality both during production and after scaling.

Post by: Hasith on April 07, 2010, 10:28:34 AM
True. Have to check if there is a way out of this.
Title: Re: Everyone who are going to submit stories and art read this

I have a solution for you.

I can send you a 300 dpi white page at the good dimensions. You can open it on ms paint and make your pages with it. When you will save them, they will still be at 300 dpi.

I tested it and it worked.

:D I saw you replying like that in the other topic..
hmm,,
:hmm: what's 300 dpi by the way!?? and how can I do that 300 dpi??
Title: Re: Everyone who are going to submit stories and art read this
Post by: Hasith on April 07, 2010, 11:07:44 PM
It's something publisher wants for printing. Resolution has to be 300dpi where in when standerd resolution is 72dpi. You ll find the page is bit larger. Better learn SAI or GIMP or both fast. These software helps a lot.

Post by: Fallen Kite on April 08, 2010, 11:22:38 AM
There should be some posts on the forum concerning 300 DPI just search it in the searching field ;)

Basically it's a larger image... than 72 DPI
From 396x558 dots (72 dpi) to 1650x2325 dots (300 dpi)...
         5,5x7,75 inch     (72 dpi) to    5,5x7,75 inch           (300 dpi)

It's the same scale... just bigger!
