Hmmmm.....

Status: In bed, legs feel like Jell-O. Must work out when I get up. Not entirely looking forward to it.

Progress/improvement: Writing is getting back on track. I have definitely lost some ofy edge, but I think I grasped a new level to some degree when writing late last year. Reading good novels has helped

oh Coryn, my heart goes out to you, but that is the curse we writer must bear no?^^
let me guess you found a new aspect to improve a character and made them leagues above what they were adding such emotional ties and story flow.
BUT
it made you rewrite the previous sections that you spent a X amount of time writing before now erased for this new level of improvement.

am i close?^^

More like: I discovered a certain, meditative Zen for writing action scenes at the end of last year, and I madee realize all of the pain that had gone into writing them previously.

Now if I can only find the time to actually write, I'd be golden. I got a few pages in Sunday, but weeknights are right out the window.

oooo be nice if you held classes ^^ long ago I use to be able to do nothing but write action scenes but later I had to sacrifice it to work on a coherent plot haha^^
now I lost my edge, mostly little notes in my script that read
[cool fight her]jk
but seriously I noticed my combat flow is lacking these days^^
ever thought about sparring a lesson for us lesser mortals?^^

Hello.... it's been a while.

Status: Lurking.     Jk.      Well, mostly been swallowed up by the shadows of work and school.

Progress:
Writing - Slowly developing world and characters for different projects. I need to focus on one...
Drawing - I got a digital tab recently that I've been playing around with, so I guess there's that.

Improvements: Eh, hard to determine. Been floating here and there to learn new things. Haven't had much opportunity to apply many of them though.

Hoping to find a spark of inspiration again.
Good to see you guys are still rolling.

Cheers.

I understand, I feel the same way, had to rewrite years of work because I found a improvement but now I really don't want to go back to the start and rewrite yet again haha^^

thank you ^^ we shall allways be rolling, I been helping out Sparta with his Dragon Of Arcadia while Animation is busy so thats a thing ^^

Im hopeing to show you guys some of Shmandom soon when Animation find some time in his busy schedule ^^

Well, I think the gist was that I'm busy with university, but I'm trying to figure out ways to work on stuff for my comics (Writing or drawing). Also that motivation comes and goes with my depression so I guess I'm feeling better lately.

Status: Currently playing on Skyrim on pc, trying to figure out what mods are making my game crash constantly.

Progress: Managed to get into a weekly writing habit ever since my return to the forum. Also made a habit of reading a lot more, which has improved my writing tremendously.

Improvements: My writing fundamentals have sharpened and I feel as though I'm finally coming into my own unique writing style, which is something I've been struggling with for years now. Still need to work on my pacing and description game, though. Also, my action scenes still need much improvement.

More like: I discovered a certain, meditative Zen for writing action scenes at the end of last year, and I madee realize all of the pain that had gone into writing them previously.

Now if I can only find the time to actually write, I'd be golden. I got a few pages in Sunday, but weeknights are right out the window.

Need to find that hyperbolic time chamber you've been training in...

Status : At the job, wanting to work on my music. Slammed out a track this morning, trying to maximize my free time even though I still factor in my laziness. I've almost been late the last few days because I'll be finishing and uploading a track then suddenly I have 5 minutes to show up. Gotta stop that rush. Working on my 12th album bit by bit, same idea as my last where I take more time than before and try to have some greater ideas.

Progress : 7 songs in, maybe 8. 3-4 more depending on how it goes and what ideas I have. This album might introduce Lithuanian Devi to my music! I have the persona of Goldmanski I am slowly evolving into, which is the same as before but with a new chapter. Might call the album Superski, Mioski, something with ski at the end to honor the now closed Polish restaurant that I loved so much. It sounds silly but the closing of the best restaurant I've ever eaten at has caused a stir in my feelings on my city, province and so on. It's one part of a bigger thing.

Improvements : Great improvements on my music, I have gotten so much better then I was this time last year. It's slow improvements and I still have many of the same issues, but now my songs have a little more melody sometimes, but I still strike a balance between composing and just vibing, as vibing is a key element in my stylings.

I am big on the idea of doing things that only I would do. So I want to make songs that are mine, and no one else would've wrote them. As stupid as they get. I have my duty to do the things that only I would put into the world, even if it's nothing special to others. I think my lyrics and all have gotten better then some of the nightmares of past.

I want my music to be good today and trash tomorrow! Meaning I get so much better everything I've done before is garbage. That is my ideal. My drive is to be better for myself and I think I have been doing that to varying degrees. In 2017 I took on many personal challenges in my expression and by now I have a well formed idea of just what I am aiming for. But I want to always been changing that aim of mine to. Never settle because I am never good and I need to be better then before! That is the ideal.

status: not here but lurking strongly, drawing regularly-ish. been down with a flu for 10 days now.
progress: I draw one day a week for the whole day. seems to work better than trying to do some each day.

Status: Studying Javascript programming while working on a draft for a large format 3D printer. Also listening to people complain about their livs in Google Hangouts.

Progress: I got accepted into an advanced nanodegree program that should allow me to live REALLY comfortably afterwards.

My initial draft for the 3D printer is about 80% done. 70 hours of research into it. T_T   At the moment I just need to figure out all the safety mechanisms I need to add into it.

Improvements: Picked up a second part-time job related to robotics/manufacturing where they give me a bunch of scraps for free. Just a few days ago they gave me 95 meters of RGB LED strips. x'D

I have learned a bit about color palettes and typography to improve my photography and story-telling.

Hello all.
I haven't been very active on manga raiders lately.

I showed some of my artwork to a few of my upperclassman.
Well lets say that it didn't go great.
In stead of giving feedback, they started shunning me for drawing in manga style, instead of their preferred art.
 style.
I made the mistake of talking back.
They left before i could finish my sentence.
In stead of letting the incident to die, they started talking to other classmates, telling them that anime is not real art and more.
And since then, everybody wo preferred or even liked an different style then theirs, would get shunned for even liking it.

I lost almost all of my confidence and ended up drawing a lot less, i am slowly regaining my  confidence in drawing but I get myself to draw anything while attending art class.

Sorry for the bad grammar.

People be narrow minded like that. Art is art, it just depends what you do with it. No one style is better than another. It's that kind of thinking that kept impressionism down for centuries.

@Eukocar: Try not to let that kind of thing bother you, homie. Instead, use it as fuel that will further drive your passions. Everybody is not gonna understand your love for manga and it’s art style, and it’s not your fault if they don’t accept it either. So keep doing what you’re doing and ignore those who wish to bring you down. Haters gonna hate. Always.

Post by: Boosted Nomena :) on May 27, 2018, 09:24:29 AM
@Eukocar: maybe it would help you to think that their behaviour might also come from their "own" passion and understanding of art, mean it's not about you but them, so try not to take it personally. It's their way of expressing their choices, perhaps a wrong way indeed but they certainly do have a lot to learn in life, we all do. Oftentimes, we are too focused on "I am right and their are wrong!" rather than "I am me and they are them!" so it's alright to have different opinion, it's even alright to listen to one another while we struggle to defend our beliefs. You'll get better if you become comfortable with your self and your own choices.

@Eukocar
Sorry to hear that happened, it's a shame that some people are like that but as everyone else has already said before me, try your best to not let it get you down. What they say has no bearing on whether or not you'll succeed, so if you're passionate about anime and art, don't give up no matter what! It'll all pay out in the end, trust me!

@bossx5
Keep at it man!
Title: Re: The Status Of Our Fellow Raiders

@Eukocar

I heard art schools can be like that, even worse when the teaches are similar as well. Don't let those people get you down. Manga is a style and is most definitely art. Anybody who would argue otherwise obviously has some preconceived notions surrounding it.

Ironically, Cesar Santos who is an amazing painter had a similar story. He liked doing portrait paintings and realistic things such as that. His teach wanted him to adopt a more post modern view of his art. He declined and kept doing his portraits because at the end of the day that's what he loved to do. It's okay to disagree with your upperclassmen and even teachers.

That said, don't let the style keep you from learning other things. School is a good time to branch out. Learning the fundamentals, master studies, etc will all serve you well in the long run. Manga/anime is just a style so if you learn to draw more classic things it's not a waste of time, you can use those principles and knowledge then apply it to when you are stylising your art back into manga style!

@Eukocar I'm no artist, so I can't really speak on this much, but I can say that there are different types of styles in all forms of art, drawing, writing, etc, and people aren't going to accept all of them. Just try and use it as motivation to show them it is a real form of art and you're just as good as they are. Easier said than done, of course, but a good tip I was taught as a kid.

Edit: I thought I'd share what I'm up to as well.

Status: in the worst mental state I've ever been in. Doing my best to keep writing and keep myself busy, but it isn't doing much.
Progress: Editing my novel all the way through for the 8th time. I'm on chapter 4. It's excruciating, and I want to scrap the thing every time I read it over, but nothing gets better just like that.
Improvements: my world building has gotten at least a dozen times better, especially in my semi-realistic worlds, which is nice. Stuff seems more like it could happen now, even if it's super unlikely.

@eukocar dont mind about them if i'd listen to my stepmother i would have stopped drawing she always say m'y art "could be" beautiful with disgust in her voice... Comparing it to leonard devinci's art only realism is good for her.
These person are wrong its an art to simplify realism. drawing manga look simple but it isnt at all and if they think otherwise you cant change it but it doesnt mean you must be affected n'y it. Your love for anime and manga is only yours if everyone did what the others think is real art... Art wouldnt even exist. Its something personnal

Status: Working for summer vacation :(
Progress:
Writing - hopefully on this part its going great m'y manga chapters are slowly taking place. Doing it with a Writer really take more time though but its all going to be better in the end
Drawing -  Ehhhhhhh reading all your comments i feel like i did nothing lastly im stuck and i dont progress at all with my storyboard pages. People usually find it easy but i spend way too Much time doing a storyboard page because i overthink it...
How Do you guys make it ... Anyone can Do storyboard i dont understand why it is so hard for me.

Improvements: l guess theres not that much at least none i can see but i'd like to be more active in the Community so if youd like m'y opinion on something (anything) dont mind to ask theres just so Much stuff going on here i cant follow you guys.

If any storyboard expert exist may he flood His knowledge on me so i can finally be productive!!!!!! (Im really desperate i know)

Trying to be more active from now on :)

Status: That weird state I find myself in over the summer where there are so many things I could do and so much time to do them that nothing feels like it matters, so instead I stare at the wall and question the fabric of the various intersecting realities that make up my experiences.

Progress: I'll be beginning work on Reset chapter 9 tomorrow after I wake up and will probably finish writing the script for that old YouTube show my friends and I started freshman year so we can maybe try to finish it out this coming year.

Improvements: I've seen my line and shape confidence improve drastically in my art, and the amount of content I poured out before I went to the con and had a good time shows me that I do have the determination to do what I love despite the bizarre nature of my current status.

progress: Nevertheless, still writing and planning additional content for the Kaimon Tales. I still greatly enjoy making the hijinks of that strange town (or city) in Japan nobody talks about lol

improvements: Best one this year...I switched full on to prose than script! I...Just need feedback. QAQ

And I?
About the same, actully I think I hit burnout
So I been lurking in the shadows of forums reading storys here and there, looking for new anime or manga to get that drive back.

Sadly not much has peaked my intrest, so its been rather boring haha

Don't get discouraged if you lose your drive Action! To be perfectly honest, I had about zero drive to create anything from 2015 through 2017. Three whole years of nothing. Then in very late 2017, and then throughout 2018, it came back with a real vengeance.

Sometimes you just need time away from what you love to recharge. As long as you don't cast it aside completely, you can always return with fresh eyes.

Im gonna add here that I noticed that there are 111 pages of members on this website yet i hardly ever see any activity.  Im curious as to why this is.  I have posted up some things and would be nice to be able to get some feedback on them whatever feedback it may be just so I know that this forum isnt dead.  Maybe something that i can do to get more people on here to see my topic and be like "this is interesting enough to post a response on".

Well a lot of people register but dont stay around or forget or maybe it wasnt what they were looking for. In fact, half or so of those 111 pages of members haven't made more than 10 posts anyway XD

this forum has been around for a very long time, so people may have been active in the past, but now are too busy etc.
Also people are probably getting over Christmas and the winter holiday so are busy doing life related stuff so it can get quiet at times.
If you comment more on other people's art they are also more likely to comment back!

Very true and your right slowly i been feeling abit more drive, just trying to see how far it takes me ^^
Thank you

yup I had at least 2-4 years worth of nothings in between my initial burst of noob level drawings and my current streak.
I'm sure you'll find your drive again (no pun intended) :P

haha glad to know I'm not alone, can't say i haven't learned from my past mistakes ^^

still long as its only delayed and not abandoned eh? haha

noticed you improved tremendously since last I saw you

I guess that goes for my manga ideas to? Huh? better step up my game LOL

Wow seems alot of things have changed with us and this little forum we call home^^
Plans delayed
Dreams escalated
Haha
Still happy many of you are kicking around
As for our little team Animation still has 2 years in the marine's before he is finally free  so hopefully his drive returns
And I?
About the same, actully I think I hit burnout
So I been lurking in the shadows of forums reading storys here and there, looking for new anime or manga to get that drive back.

Sadly not much has peaked my intrest, so its been rather boring haha

Got a new job/career as a semi truck driver so at least thereis that

this actually turned out kinda nice with our MR faithful and others soon to become

I find it strangely comforting to see the maturity of our members, it's so easy to forget how far we come and its nice seeing the milestones we have long past

so forgive me as I trudge it along

Current Status
life as a truck driver is great, got a awesome voice to text program for my phone so now I write my story on the open road
then edit it on my laptop while I'm off

due to my, I guess---obsession over writing, I managed to get pretty far in my story and even got to share it with a few others
so far reviews seems positive---but i still feel it can be bigger, better and even more impactful

but hey don't we all?

as for progress I'd like to say I learned from the stary eyed dreamer I use to be and save up our updates instead of posting it right after it was done.

leaves us far to inconsistent and is honestly depressing since it can be a year till another picture

so when we are finally ready to roll I'll have a stack of pictures/Manga I can post every other week to help gather a following

while also giving us some room to take time on projects at hand.

although I do plan to at least post a sketch of my main cast from my story
if nothing else to establish[and date >.>] their design

think that's it really
hope all is well for the rest of you ^^

Boy do I have a lot of catching up to do. I got a job, took psych leave from university, started getting help, and now things are finally starting to stabilize. I might even be able to go back as a part time student this fall, so as I can afford rent and stuff being part time as well.

I also, as I might've mentioned on Ecchiworld, I now have two lovely little submissives. I'm an official domme! Gods, life is so weird...

For the record you pervs, only one of those has any romantic inclinations.

---

Long story short, my life got way off track, but I'm building a new one. That may mean more updates on my cosplay group and my MRverse, and maybe even my art!

I may even start to be like other youngins and use my phone to keep updated around here, but gods, my work breaks are short.

I have been quiet for quite a while... Sorry =TT,TT=

Took a step forward as a writer at the start of the year, so have been very busy with editing and creating illustrations to my novel (I am trying to copy the touch of a light novel). Also starting to sell it on both Amazon and smashword (even if it´s possible to read for free on the internet.)
The first novel is done ( 4 volumes) and I am now editing the second one.
That is kinda off the reason that I have been kinda quiet. Tons of editing, illustrations, more editing and life... And coffee. Much coffee.

I've had my fair share of coffee while working to deadlines :)
good to see you've been working hard, hopefully your plans work out!
and maybe sometime we'll see what you've been working on :P

coffee is important. really important =^,^=

hopes that it will work out to. But think that I am off at a kinda good start... I hope...

will consider starting posting my free novel here again... think I posted one or two chapters once in the time... Wonder why I really stopped doing it?.. Hmm...
But they can also be found at my facebookpage, it can even be downloaded from there =^,^=

For me, two words. Dead week. (The last week of classes before final exams.)

Hopefully I can be more active once summer break starts.

all the best, hope the exams go well!

I'm glad you are at least getting a dead week though! (Assuming it's more than just dead week in name only). Nothing harshes the finals week buzz like being overloaded with final projects and regular homework

Oh we still have classes and plenty of final projects. Some semesters dead week is worse than finals week. Exams are bothersome, but I’m an art major. Exams are pitifully easy compared to what we do. Take two hours for both the studying and the exam itself and get an A vs work on a project for 18 hours to get a B.

That's definitely true for art majors alright. Final projects suck. I still remember a 16 hour marathon writing session to finish a paper once. Got a B-

I'm not great at studying for exams so I typically enjoy the project oriented final exams more. It feels like I have a lot more control over my grade if that makes sense. Projects are only stressful when you procrastinate or things go wrong, but tests are always stressful.

All of my time is taken up by my projects, that's true, but I'm at a stage where I'm producing work that's conducive to my practice as an artist because higher level classes tend to have more open-ended assignments. One of my projects is the game I've been working on, so I guess I don't feel as busy as I really am.

Finally looks like I'll be readmitted to uni in the fall and I've been working on the diddly darn Kingdom Hearts YouTube show stuff. More news on that when we actually look like we might have a release date. I have less than 20 scenes left to write for the whole season to be completely scripted. Then we just gotta wait for the director to turn some of them into teleplays and coreograph some fights, then it's props, costumes, props, costumes, and filming, filming, filming. We've got a busy summer ahead of us.

@Kesashi good to hear you've been busy. looking forward to hearing of exciting developments :P

@Mahlua great news, and sounds awesome. Make sure you let us know when it's a thing :)

I myself have finally been made redundant (well I say that just because it sounds cooler than "my temporary job ended"), and so I plan to improve my art and try and make it a job over the next year. I'm also seriously thinking about doing some game coding as that's a bit easier to make money as well.

I been the same. Super san do what i do i work hard and set an amount of money to save and when i reach my goal i take a few months of from work it gets stressful towards the end of what i call runs but when you do find a job its best to have two. I know that this sounds lazy but lifes to short to be working the whole time so i do it this way and enjoy it to the fullest. I have to get back at it soon but im here now hopefully posting more.
