I'm a fan of monster girls too. Do you watch Monster Musume? It may be to ecchi though.

Your background art is great!

I see you are experimenting in your character art styles. Do you prefer realistic or more anime-ish characters?

For your last colored picture, the snake girl one, her fingertips would break with that angle. I don't know if you did that was on purpose.

I've read the first Ch 2 years ago . A friend recommend it after looking at my art .
I enjoy both realistic and anime.
Yes the fingertips don't go that way. I need to work on my hand.
Thank you very much!

@ eddie_snacks

Started off good, you show your ability to draw different garments well, a skill I envy and will work on real soon!

Just got better and better I'm attracted to your style. Distinct, realism rocks too!

I reckon a mix between the two (as you see with most seinen) would be killer, you're already on your way

Keep this up

Bruh, your work is amazing. I'm pretty jealous. I've been doing art on and off for quite some time, but still nowhere close to that level of realism in my work. It almost makes me wanna get my butt in gear and draw some more, because that's the only way to improve.

You also have another fan of the snake chicks over here.

Keep up the good work! I look forward to seeing more of your stuff.

Man, your rushed is about the equivalent of my "damn near impossible at this stage." Gorgeous shading work. Maybe if you work on doing quick pieces, some of that rushed look that you're seeing (and I'm not) will die down some?

Funny you should do that; my icon is something of an accidental self portrait. Your end result, therefore, bears some likeness with me. Your sketch turned out looking pretty nice, although my only critique would be that the ear might look better if it were lowered a bit.

i WOULD love to work with you, i fancy myself a writer, and your style is amazing my friend, if you gave me an idea of what you wanted to draw about i could think up a a story for you that i bet you would love to draw.
Im serious if you want, tell me what type of stuff ur into, dont hold back, even if its weird (which i reckon it might be cause of those snake girls but they look tight.)
I was wondering if you are the guy in your picture of a guy drawing, ?
please contact me, im broke but even if you charge me i would love to work with you.
No doubt you have a future in art.

About the lowering of the ear: Yeah, there you go. That looks better, and a little more realistic. The work was excellent to begin with, but it's an icing on the cake moment.

@Killer B !!SAMA!!  ;D

@MahluaandMilk Thank you for pointing that.

@danith Thank you!
I want to put up more artwork before taking projects. I want to put like sample pages and artworks.

I have no preference.I only ask the writer to Just write something good, and hold your end of the deal. I'll just criticize technical stuff like OP mary sue plot holes etc.The rest is up to the writer. For cooperation that is.

"For paid"If you pay me I'll draw whatever you want Boss
I'm open to anything except Hentai hehe

Will be fun to see snake ladies in a story but no you don't have to write that for me.

Yeah spiders are not my favorite critters. At least I don't run away screaming anymore XD I trained myself so I wouldn't pass my phobia to my daughter.

I really like how you give this soft fleshyness to your bodies. My figures often seam to be too rigid or at least not soft enough, definately need to work on that. Also nice to see how you work. I'm still crazy bad at backgrounds, most of the time I use photo references so it doesn't look too plain; I really hate drawing backgrounds lol

Using references is fine . Also you need perspective, a ruler and a lot of patience. I might do some backgrounds later.
Sorry about the spiders, Will put them in spoiler next time.

A bunny Mage? Alright I'll go with it. are you going to color them?

If you need any more ideas, how about half clown half skeleton girl. Or, a shadow woman. Or a cockroach girl.
Title: Re: KeaneFox Artwork
Post by: KeanFox on October 15, 2016, 01:13:07 AM
I don't think I'll color them. I'll start doing colored work after the M girl month. Maybe i should try coloring one.
Clown, skeleton, cockroach, zombie, doll ,slime mermaid, lizard or snake, all in my list
But what is shadow woman?

Shadow people are a supernatural phenomena that are said to stalk people when they sleep. The are just silhouette of people but completely black. Google them and you will see that they have a connection with people during sleep. Not that they actually exist.  Some say they are ghosts, other say they are from a different dimension.

@Forlorn Serpent Google give me pics of artistic silhouette photography. I think you image will do.

I will continue the monster girls, sketch are done just need to lineart them.

Thank you luna
It take me 8 hour from coming up with the idea, thinking of a pose. sketching cleaning then lineart.
For a painting, If it complex painting like character with background it take a week of daily work  3 hour a day till it's finished.
For character portrait or sheet it take 3 days

@dany
Sure thing. Just give description if you have something specific in mind. You mean a girl made of actual ravens, right?

That's actually a smart idea. You need bones for movement because they anchor muscles for contraction and stuff. I forgot my anatomy terms from college. Slime people can dissolve species for their bones or they are given some artificial ones to get around. This has a lot of potential for story ideas.

@Forlorn Serpent The normal can be in full liquid state then stay in a bucket or bottle, that can be cool and fun. So with skeleton or without, play with the ideas.

Man, I might have to study your studies. Your use of shape and understanding of the 3D form are excellent.

Being an artist takes a lot of observation work, yeah? You have to see everything and break it down visually so that you can recreate the structure. I'm still in the process of learning to see things that way. Do you have any suggestions that might help develop the process, or is it something that can really only be learned by doing?

Sometimes artist get offended if you say your work remind me of this artist. I was like that but now I love to hear it  so i can go check it.  I can see Claymore art is something i love to Imitate.
I watched 2Ep of Claymore long time ago when it first came out.

I think simplify it in your mind. Like the head is just a sphere. Arms and legs are cylinders. then build up.
If it don't turnout right from the first try don't get frustrated, try again. You will get better and it easier. more importantly extra fun
And. I focus on one subject at a time.

Every artist have their own way. Some Sketch right away. I found that using construction and planing work for me.
I learned this from other artist.

This what i try to keep in mind when doing figure construction.

Hmm...the way you do diagonals to plan before you add the cyllandrical volume to limbs is really interesting since it can serve as a guide for that step. I usually do straight from center circle from center circle. Maybe doing that little diagonal instead will help me flesh things out more accurately. Thanks for all that, man! I was just scrolling through this, and my first thought was, "Oh yes, who could forget the elements of 'hairball', 'candles', 'tentacle monster', and 'ice cream'. But seriously, nice job. It looks really cool.

Urgh I need to practice materials too. I really like the hair ball and the ice, but the ice cream at the end looks kinda gross. Maybe it's the colour? I made a comic with a chocolate cookie one and it looked like poo until I took a photo as colour reference

I think it look oily and the color make feel like some type of hair cream.
I'm going to do more painting to get more comfortable with it.

You never cease to impress, my man. I can't help but notice the way certain areas of skin "fill out" a little past the fabric that binds them. As someone who sees it a lot (I have some very...endowed friends), I have to say it looks very nicely realistic, although you might want to keep a roll of paper towels around your thread, lest Lego nosebleed all over everything. I love you, Lego, I swear.

The Fill out might bit to much, but like you said it depend on the person body. I personally like how it looks but will try to keep it under control. We don't want Lego to bleed to death.

digital linework is hard. Trying to get the lines the way you want them. So i have to draw the line then Z ctrl a couple of times until you get the line just right, or close enough. I see artist do it and it's annoying at first but make sense later.
The food still life is not classic. Its just me fantasizing about food, because i'm on a diet.

I don't know much about shadow people. I think if i made a story about them Its going to be like. You inter a room But can't shake the feeling of being watched. That build up to looking at the shadows in the room making you feel uncomfortable.
Why not leave the room?
1 you are a kid and no one believe you
2 You believe that its the presence of long lost loved one.
3 You LOVE it

Now, if only I could write up an interesting story around them  :hmm:.

A girl starts seeing shadow people in the corner of her eyes one day. At first they only appear when she is super tired and about to fall asleep but they start to become more and more common at night. Instead of freaking out and numbing her head with psychiatric drugs she decides to try to make friends with them.

Somehoe she befriends one shadow people and eventually learns the truth about them. It turns out the shadow people were real and they are beings from another dimension. Turns out all the people who saw them were not crazy but were simply more sensitive to their prescence and were therefore able to see them.
Sound good. Where it goes from here?

nice work, i like your breakdown of form in the torsos and the animals.
also your sketching style from wide loose strokes and adding more detail is a nice idea. ive seen other people do it, but i cant say ive had much success myself. i wonder if its more of a painting thing rather than a lineart thing...?
plus your shading on the faces is really realistic.

@The SlamJam Yea kind of. If i have character and background the layers build up fast.  Not the best way to go about it and will be cool if there is better way.
Just realized i never did one layer painting.

@legomaestro
Thanks I do more backgrounds after the mannequin studies

Wow, man. I love all the figure drawings. Are you also going to do like 10,000 of them? I know another member did it once, and I believe it was Lego.

You're totally right about the guy looking like Tenma. That reminds me that Monster is one of the shows I want to finish watching someday...

Killer B Thank you! In digital coloring, needs some methods and getting used to it. I still don't fully understand most if it.

SaiHawkeye yea Its fun. just find the tool that feels right and go for it.

Yea. I made a huge mistake practicing drawing with the tablet only. everyone said to practice traditional first but I didn't listen.
My hand is much more staple steady with a pencil.
Now I want to buy a sketchbook micron ink pens and Copic markers.
I hope the screen tablet is a good mix of digital and traditional

I look around me for ideas/designs and play with it.I used to draw the characters first then think of a story for them

Very good on the light studies! I see a lot of new people often forget about the refracted light, but you remembered to put your dark shade one contour area away from to allot for the refracted light before the cast shadow. Great value stuff.

Yeah, I think I used to try to tell people that traditional is good for you, but at some point I just came to accept that the digital medium as opposed to traditional is as different as crayons and paint--they take different skillsets anyway. I don't think there's a problem in having your skills put more in one basket than another, but as artists, it tends to be a little more helpful to not put all your eggs in one basket, as the saying goes. More versatility means more moneymaking possibilities.

They also say, Jack of All Trades, Master of None. So have to settle for one medium eventually. Trying different things will help find your favorite eggs basket.

Duuuuuude Keaaaane how the hell do you do this!? This is amazing man, and sort of exactly what I needed for my own work haha. I thought the backgrounds were already informative enough but thanks for the characters you added as well. Different ones for each position too. So good...

I love how you do legs and hands man. I still need to learn those. But the perspective is quite good alone.

Also like how you use minimal shading and I can still see everything happening in the space. Guuuh I wish I could draw like this.

The characters need to be on the perspective lines. The horizon line needs to touch the characters around the same area. You need to have the same perspective lines. but all must have the same horizon. When placing something on a background, must know where is your horizon.

One thing I need watch out for is to not make the characters floating or sinking.

Good scaling, it can be hard to figure out the right perspective to be honest. Scott Robertson has some interesting techniques in relation to this. Your tree/rocks and the one with the characters by the trees are very good. Trees/rocks look very professional quality.

Jeez, I love how you almost look like you're drawing your own how to draw book when you work on exercises like this. That is to say, your stuff is always professional grade.

Ah, the floating and sinking problem in placing people in perspective. That right there is why I try not to put more than two people in a work, lol.
Title: Re: KeaneFox Artwork
Post by: legomaestro on May 13, 2018, 03:50:29 AM
Bosslike proportion and perspective skill there Keane. I need to learn that haha. I think sinking is solved by shadows? You can make unshaded shadows by drawing circles under their feet, or just bold the line art under their soles.

Otherwise nope, you seem to be on a good way here

Title: Re: KeaneFox Artwork

@SlamJam@WalterB Thank you Very much!!
@TEA Scott Robertson books are one of the essential but unfortunately, I don't have them.
@MahluaandMilk I have perspective books that I'm doing the exercises from. About the sinking problem, you should place more people to make a distraction.
@ lego I think its the tools. The tablet and the drawing program. There is the saying that you make the drawing, not the tools. But I think they help. I'm looking at manga pages and trying to learn how to draw like them and get the look.

Strangely Cheetahs aren't my thing, but hell yes all around. Love the outfits and shading

I'm personally a sucker for that high ponytail business look, but the short hair does have a different vibe and style coming from it. Shorter haired version looks a little younger, if that makes sense. Depends on what you're going for.

@legoCheetahs is not Neko so it makes sense. When drawingCheetah focus on athletic and the leopard print them.
Is there a way to draw a Cheetah that makes you like it Or it's just not your thing?

@Mahlua Thanks, I'll do the long hair or maybe both. I feel the younger look don't work for this character.

@SlamJam I'll work on fixing the hands

I'm learning clip studio. The tools I use are the ink and pencil pens mostly. It has a lot of stuff to learn. I want to try coloring in clip later. For now just the ink and pencil.

Haha hnnggg is what happens other than getting a nosebleed when you like the way something looks so he meant he loves the hands. They are well done too.

Haha cheetah's are just not my thing, but I love that I can tell what animal inspired the face for sure though.

If you have any perspective sketches lying around I'd love to see them too. They're just such a treat to look at.

lovely backgrounds in the last few posts, and great perspective work as well on the people in different positions.
I think maybe you draw the feet of your characters a little strange though in quite a few of the images. I think maybe the toes are too much in a line rather than curving round, so the foot looks like a spade. its not as bad on the pieces that look better, so it might just be your rough sketches that have that problem.

First one! & I agree Keane get first one rendered, I've been missing quite a lot of work ere, this may just be one of my fave manga styles here, you've got this Obata-esque touch to the face and hair; he likes to acknowledge the chins in his characters, but you keep the facial features true-shonen simple like the nose and lips. The eyes however is a diff style I'm not familiar with, but I like them. Love this

Thank you! Walter!

Thank you! I'll try to keep up with this style. I'm was trying to get most of the eyes while keeping it in a style

Progress so far. Base colors.

awesome robot! reminds me a bit of the robot designs when Sci-fi first become a thing, like an illustration in an Asimov novel or something. I can see the shine on it without any colours or hardly any shading at all which is fantastic.

I made the two
*Furiously scrolls up and down to find the differences*
love the details on the clothes! those long nails must make it a pain to use the tablet haha
not sure whether I like the gap showing her waist at the side or not, it doesnt seem to fit the business suit feel, unless its a slightly sexy version :P unless I missed the fashion movement :P

@suupertramp Thank you for the redline. since I read Asimov and other old Sci-fi novels I have been getting robots ideas.

Yea I didn't think about the nails. From what I saw blouses have the opening on the side. So I'm not purposely making it skimpy. I think I wanted to show snake scales there. Form what little backstory she has. She works in a library/witch shop, there is hardly anyone there so she gets casual

@Walter B Yea its a robo-pet

@MahluaandMilk Thank you! I have been drawing robots and mechs lately. robots and Hard surfaces are tricky to draw

fair enough on the blouse. well even in real life people have long nails which makes it inconvenient to do stuff, so it's not out of place :P
and great line arts. love the guitar case and the belts/swords/accessories on both of them.

I'm also digging the fashion on this guy. He looks like some kind of performer.

I second that it's nice to see the forum utilizing tutorials from other parts of the forum. It feels neat and all fancy family community like. I do wonder what full plaid would look like on this shirt, though.

The character so far is a wandering guitar street person. He is from a project called Zingarth. It's fantasy adventure shonen manga. I'll be posting the concepts here as I make it.

Very nice work!

Yeah my dad plays the guitar and I remember him playing for me since I was little. Said that was the only thing that would calm me down and sleep.

It's good to be back too! I had some kind of art hibernation this summer with too much stuff around life and kids, and now I get back to it and it feels crazy good :D

Looking forward to see the mangas concepts. I myself had slacked on them and regretted that while drawing the first chapter, so this time I'm making a proper concept for every character before I continue. Learning curve can hurt, haha

would be great to see the full plaid pattern, although stripes look just as great.

@Mahlua you're totally right, it's a warm fuzzy family feeling :P

and that's a fantastic finished piece. the render on the clothes gives them a bit of a glowy/reflective effect. and the snake texture is spot on. great lighting detail from the tablet on the hands. shading a black fabric is a real pain, but you've got the light reflecting off it and everything done real well. awesome!
